Oscar Pistorius murder case trial has apparently placed the athlete among the list of fallen heroes. With the sentencing looming, speculations continue that "Blade Runner's" jail time won't very long.

Australia's News.com reported that the sentencing in the Oscar Pistorius murder case would place him in the dubious list of famous sports heroes who fell from grace.

The list includes Mike Tyson, Lance Armstrong, O.J. Simpsons, Hansie Cronje, Nancy Kerrigan and Marion Jones who never really recovered their career after the scandal.

"But thanks to social media none has attracted the worldwide focus of Pistorius," it said. "So obsessed has the Twitterverse been with the case of the Blade Runner and the tragic shooting death of his girlfriend of four months Reeva Steenkamp, that it has been credited with permanently altering the media landscape both in South Africa and internationally."

Meanwhile, Huffington Post said that the judge has a very wide leeway in handing down her sentencing in connection to the Oscar Pistorius murder case trial.

Human rights lawyer George Bizos said, "I think that the probabilities are that the judge will send him to prison for a certain period, but not a very long one."

But there are precedents on the Oscar Pistorius murder case trial including singer Jub Jub who was initially convicted with murder but was downgraded to homicide, which immediately reduced his sentence from 25 years to just eight.

Jub Jub was found guilty for mowing down spectators in a 2010 drag race which killed four and injured two school children.

Another case was that of a taxi driver who was convicted with murder but was later overturned last year to culpable homicide. His sentence was cut to eight from the initial 20-year jail time.

Kelly Phelps, senior lecturer in Public Law at Universityo of Cape Town, told HuffPost that predicting the sentence for Oscar Pistorius murder case trial is futile since the rules on sentencing is "individually applied."
