Cat Stevens Tour 2015: Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam Peace Train Tour Hits Non-Violent Resistance

Cat Stevens Tour 2015:  Cat Stevens Peace Train tour is proving to be a less peaceful trek through a wild world than the singer imagined. Even Lisa is sad.

Legendary rock star Cat Stevens, who has gone by the name Yusuf Islam since shortly after his conversion to Islam in 1977, kicked off the United States leg of his world tour in Philadelphia on Dec. 4. There have been articles speculating that Islam risks disapproval from Muslim leaders for the hedonistic rock-star lifestyle of a man on tour.

Yusef wrote a letter to the Toronto Star saying he has been the victim of "dragon-sized myths" and "unsavory controversies" since he converted to Islam.

The North American concert tour, which includes some dates Yusuf/Cat Stevens hasn't played in the United States since 1976, tour has been marred by ticket price inflation and security issues.

According to the Toronto Star, fans were put off by the requirements to see Stevens at Massey Hall show on Dec. 1. According to Stevens fan, Ric Doedens, audience members were not allowed to leave the hall "for any reason" once they got there and they had to show up two hours before the 8pm start time.

Fans also had to prove they have the same credit card that they used to buy tickets. Cat Stevens fans also had to show photo identification and undergo an "airport style search, including walk-through airport metal detectors." Backpacks, waist packs, cans or bottles, blankets, cameras, GoPros and iPads, handbags (larger than 12 inches by 14 inches), weapons, chains or video/audio recording equipment were all banned.

"You have to wonder if he (Yusuf) is doing this because he feels threatened. I've been a fan since I was a kid so I find this rather ironic. If you follow (Yusuf's) own website and you read his background, you see that he's very clearly a man of peace. And yet this sends exactly the opposite message," Doedens told the Toronto Star.

Cat Stevens took to Twitter to say @globalnewsto @CMarglobal trying to make a story out of nothing? Not surprised. Doors open 2 hours before show. 30 mins earlier than normal

Stevens canceled his New York City show, which would have been his first appearance in the city in 40 years, over "extortionate" ticket prices. According to The Guardian, Cat Stevens has had complaints about ticket prices since the 1970s.

Cat Stevens was one of biggest-selling singer songwriters of the early '70s. Before he was Yusef Islam he had such hits as "Peace Train," "Wild World" and "The First Cut Is the Deepest" which has been heavily covered by other artists.

Cat Stevens, who was born Steven Georgiou and is now Yusuf Islam, had huge hits with such songs as "Wild World," "Father and Son" and "Peace Train." He put out a comeback album "An Other Cup," in 2006.

The Cat Steves tour is called "Peace Train ... Late Again." The American tour will be followed by a European tour.
