Amanda Knox's Acquittal Inspires Meredith Kercher's 'Killer' To Seek Retrial; Rudy Guede Convinced His Verdict Will Be Overturned

Rudy Guede, the convicted killer of Meredith Kercher, is seeking a retrial after being inspired by the acquittal of Amanda Knox in the murder case leveled against her and Raffaele Sollecito.

The alleged drug dealer and Ivory Coast native told Italian senator Andrea Augello during a visit on Tuesday that Amanda Knox's acquittal only proves his innocence.

"I am the impossibly convicted one," he said per Telegraph. "I'm accomplice to a crime for which no one else has been found guilty. I'm the only one convicted, but the judges will be convinced that I certainly can't be an accomplice to myself."

The senator confirmed to the Telegraph Rudy Guede's request for a retrial to overturn his verdict in the light of Amanda Knox's acquittal.

"He said that given the cassation decision and all the judicial contradictions, he hopes elements will emerge that allow his trial to be reviewed," the lawmaker said. "Of course wanting something and it actually happening are two very different things. "

But the lawyer for Rudy Guede insisted that there's no such plan to seek a retrial.

"Those parliamentarians are not allowed to refer anything said by an inmate and I have asked for them to be censured. We are waiting to see the high court's reasoning," the lawyer added.

Under Italian rules, the Supreme Court will have to explain the acquittal of Amanda Knox 90 days after the ruling on her retrial.

Rudy Guede earlier told La Repubblica, that the Supreme Court acquitting Amanda Knox of Meredith Kercher's murder gave him "a new reason to go on."

"Destiny has been less kind to me but I will not lament," he said. "I want to prove to everyone that I am not a monster and forget my past."

The 29-year-old said that he made a mistake of insisting on a quick trial.

"Here in Italy the fast track trial is seen as an admission of guilt. But I thought I would be able to prove my innocence straight away," he said.
