Emma Stone And Steve Carell Reunite For Billie Jean King/Bobby Riggs Movie ‘Battle Of The Sexes’

Emma Stone and Steve Carell, who co-starred in "Crazy Stupid Love" will reunite on the big screen for the comedy-drama "Battle of the Sexes," which will tell the story of the tennis rivalry in the seventies. Emma Stone will star as tennis champ and feminist icon Billie Jean King. Steve Carell will play Bobby Riggs.

According to Deadline Hollywood, "Battle of the Sexes" is being produced by Fox Searchlight's "Battle of the Sexes," The Times has confirmed. Deadline Hollywood first reported the news.

The 1973 match between King and Riggs became one of sport's most famous moments of the 20th century.

The movie takes its name from the 1973 tennis match between Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King. Riggs had been one of the world's best players in the 1940s. He challenged any top female player to a match. King accepted the challenge and won. King also won the $100,000 prize.

Emma Stone was recently been nominated for an Academy Award for her role in the Michael Keaton vehicle "Birdman." She will also be making her Broadway debut "Cabaret."

Stone started on TV and had a role in the 2007 film "Superbad." Stone has since appeared 2008's "The Rocker," was featured in the 2008 Anna Faris comedy "The House Bunny." In 2009, she appeared in "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" and "Zombieland." Stone had her first leading film role as Olive Penderghast in the 2010 teen comedy "Easy A."

"Battle of the Sexes" will be produced by Danny Boyle. It will be directed by "Little Miss Sunshine" filmmakers Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris. The screenplay is being written by Simon Beaufoy ("The Full Monty," "Slumdog Millionaire")..

"Battle of the Sexes" is the third Hollywood project in development about King and Riggs. HBO is making a movie starring Elizabeth Banks and Paul Giamatti. Will Ferrell will play Riggs in "Match Maker."
