Psy’s 'Gangnam Style' Honored As Most Viewed Video In YouTube History As Site Celebrates 10th Anniversary

Over the weekend on April 23, YouTube celebrated its 10th anniversary since launch and media outlets determined that Psy's "Gangnam Style" is the most viewed video in the site's history, reports KpopHerald.

With more than 2.3 billion views since being posted on YouTube, "Gangnam Style" attracted so many views that it even forced Google last year to change YouTube's tracker algorithm to accommodate the video's enormous and still-growing view count.

"Gangnam Style" was the undisputed number 1 in views, more than doubling the second-ranked "Baby" music video from pop sensation Justin Bieber which racked up 1.1 billion views.

Another of Psy's videos made it to the top 10 of most viewed videos on YouTube. "Gentleman", the 2013 follow-up to "Gangnam Style", has 827 million views and ranks ninth in the list, adds KpopHerald.

The relatively less enthusiastic reception to "Gentleman" had led to discussions on whether Psy could really be considered a world star, but his fans defend that his unbeatable YouTube views count for a lot.

"There's a lot of debate over whether Psy's a world star or not, but it's undeniable that he's a world star at least in the realm of YouTube and that he's also one of the most famous Koreans in the world," said one of the highest-liked comments on Naver, as compiled by Netizenbuzz.

Fans also chimed in that Psy has garnered quite the financial windfall from "Gangnam Style".

"Even if he made only 10 cents per view, he could be making 23 billion won," said another commenter.
