Donald Cerrone Finally Gets UFC Title Shot, Will Fight Rafael Dos Anos; Dana White Says 'Cowboy Is Next In Line'

Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone is finally getting a UFC title fight against current lightweight champion Rafael dos Anjos.

Cerrone, who had just won his eighth consecutive fight by breaking John Makdessi's jaw on Saturday's UFC 187, is next in line to fight current lightweight champion Rafael dos Anos, according to Yahoo! sports.

Dana White announced Cerrone's title shot after Saturday's match.

"Absolutely. Cowboy is definitely the contender," he told UFC.com. "He'll fight anybody, anywhere, anytime. He always keeps his composure. He picks his shot. He takes his time. He looked great again tonight," adding "Cowboy is next in line."

Dos Anjos, meanwhile, is still recovering from a knee injury. After a recent trip to the doctor, he revealed that he could go back into training in one or two months, depending on how quickly his knee heals.

The champion, however, is looking forward to his upcoming match with Cerrone, saying that he completely deserves a shot at the title.

"In my opinion, (Cerrone) deserve to wait until I come back," dos Anjos said. "He did his job. If he wants, he can wait until I come back (in my opinion)."

The upcoming match will be Cerone and dos Anjos' second fight. The two squared off in the Octagon a few years ago; dos Anjos won by unanimous decision.

Cerrone, who has taken every fight put in front of him, can finally take a breather before his title shot. The Colorado native deserves it after his match with Makdessi, which he entered with a rib injury.

Greg Jackson, Cerrone's coach, almost pulled him out of the match.

"The fighting is great, it's a sport," Jackson told MMA Fighting."And as a person, I worry about Cowboy, so I wanna make sure that he's all right."

"I would love to wait," Cerrone said in a statement. "I'll wait for Denver, Colorado. I see a lot of Sunday Fundays in my future, so I should be alright."
