Another Employee Charged In New York Prison Escape, Aided In Smuggling Tools Hidden In Burger Meat?

New York Prison employee Gene Palmer has been charged for allegedly aiding in the escape of convicted murderers Richard Matt and David Sweat from the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York.

According to a Reuters report, Palmer was charged for "promoting prison contraband, destroying evidence and official misconduct."

Despite the accusations on the New York Prison escape though, Palmer reportedly pleaded not guilty according to the New York state police.

His lawyer Andrew Brockway insisted Palmer, who is now out on bail, will continue to cooperate with the police as reported on CNN.

"Mr. Palmer has been completely cooperative with the investigation," Brockway said as quoted by CNN.

"He will continue to cooperate. He's a man of integrity who made some mistakes," he added.

Palmer, as cited in the CNN report, allegedly handed over the tools that aided Matt and Sweat in their escape. The source of the hacksaw blades and drill though was prison employee Joyce Mitchell who has been charged and admitted to hiding the tools inside frozen hamburger meat to get it inside the prison.

Palmer's camp insisted thought that he wasn't aware of the tools hidden in the meat he delivered inside the inmates' cell area that led to the New York Prison escape.

"Before he handed off the meat, he asked if there was anything wrong with it and she said no," Brockway told CNN.

"The only mistake he made was trusting Joyce Mitchell," the lawyer added.

"He understands that he made a mistake with the whole meat fiasco," Brockway further said.

Matt and Sweat's New York Prison escape happened on June 6, as reported by USA Today. They cut through metals walls and pipes before managing to crawl out of a manhole. The escape was a first for the facility in the last century. The manhunt for the fugitives continue.
