Princess Charlotte’s Christening Breaks Tradition, Godparents Missing As Baptism Pictures Released!

Princess Charlotte was baptized on Sunday at the St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham. The christening was attended by close family and friends but the public was close by for the occasion.

Unlike Prince George, the public was invited to get a glimpse of Princess Charlotte before her baptism ceremony according to CNN. The paddock or enclosure outside the church was filled with locals of Norfolk on Sunday as seen on pictures shared by Kensington Royal on Twitter.

"Well-wishers gather outside St Mary Magdalene Church #Sandringham ahead Princess Charlotte's christening," Kensington Royal posted.

Prince William, Duchess Catherine with Prince George on foot walked to the church to the delight of the crowd while Princess Charlotte rode a pram towards the church. This was also the first time the family of four was seen all together.

Royal traditions were also broken for Princess Charlotte's baptism with the godparents chosen for the new royal baby. As reported by The Guardian, no one from the royal family was bestowed the honor of being a godparent to the fourth in line to the British throne. Instead, the godparents were close family and friends of the Cambridges. They were Princess Diana's niece and Prince William's cousin Lady Laura Fellowes, Duchess Catherine's cousin Adam Middleton, Prince William's oldest friends Thomas van Straubenzee and James Meade and Duchess Catherine's friend Sophie Carter, as cited by The Telegraph.

The number of Princess Charlotte's godparents on her special day was two people short as well compared to her big brother Prince George. The future King of Britain had seven godparents including a member of the royal family.

Despite breaking some traditions, the Cambridge family also stuck to some old traditions for Princess Charlotte's baptism.

In a report on BBC, it was mentioned that Princess Charlotte wore a hand-me-down from brother Prince George. For the event, she wore the same historic christening gown that Prince George wore in 2013. The little princess' pram was also a hand-me-down from Queen Elizabeth herself, who also used the same pram for her children.

The baptismal font also kept up with tradition.

"The Lily Font's decoration represents purity & new life," Kensington Royal posted on Twitter.

Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip, Prince Charles, Duchess Camilla and the Middletons were also in attendance for Prince Charlotte's christening as reported by ABC News. Prince Harry was absent due to an engagement in Africa.
