Girls' Generation Reaches 100 Million Views For 'Gee' MV, 'Major YouTube Milestone'

Girls' Generation has made it to a major YouTube milestone when their catchy single, "Gee," surpassed 100 million views late Sunday night sometime between 22:30 and 22:40 UTC (coordinated universal time).

The smash hit from Girl's Generation was released back in 2009 and brought the idol group to international fame. The cutesy song with easy to master hand choreography becomes the first from a Korean idol group to reach 100 million views. The only Korean with more is Psy's global hit track, "Gangnam Style."

"Gee" was a turning point for the girl group. After receiving monumental recognition for the song in their own country (staying at the top of the record charts for nine weeks), the single began to spread globally riding the hallyu wave.

The adorable tune is about a girl who falls in love for the first time with "gee" being an exclamation of her surprise.

It would also be worth noting that label SM Entertainment had originally planned on another song, "Dancing Queen," to be the title track for the first Korean Girls' Generation EP. After seeing what a massive success "Gee" has been, they are probably very pleased with the last minute change.

"Dancing Queen" was later released on January 1 of this year as a single on the fourth Girls' Generation album, I Got A Boy.

Congratulations Girls' Generation!
