Apple TV 2015 Now Available In the UK; Tim Cook Notes Consumers’ Switch To Streaming Devices
The new Apple TV 2015 is now available for pre-order in the UK.
Pre-orders for the device started last Oct 26 and will be shipped to customers within three days, according to PC Advisor.
The 32GB model sells at £129, while the 64GB version costs £169.
Apple TV 2015 - which replaces the old model released in 2015 - plugs into TV sets and connects to the internet, allowing its owners to stream films, TV shows, Apple Music and games.
Users will also be able to rent films and TV programmes form the iTunes Store, as well as access streaming services such as Netflix and online channels dedicated to Vimeo, YouTube, Flickr and Now TV..
One of the latest features of Apple TV 2015 is the app store which was previously unavailable in the old version, making the latter difficult to compete with Roko, Amazon and Google.
With its app store, Apple TV 2015 has been made "more powerful" and attractive to consumers by giving them access to more applications.
Universal apps is now also available on the media streaming device, which means that once an application is purchased on one's iPhone, it can also be used on the Apple TV 2015.
Some of these applications have been made exclusive for Apple TV 2015 such as "Crossy Road" and Harmonix.
Aside from having access to games, photos, music and videos, users will also be able to do online shopping and house hunting.
Apple TV 2015 is equipped with the latest controller called Siri remote, which reportedly has a touch pad, a built-in mic and charges via Lightining cable.
At the WSJD Live Conference, Apple CEO Tim Cook noted that consumers are making the big switch from cable and broadcast TV to streaming services and interactive experiences, according to MacWorld.
Cook explained how Apple is taking advantage of this development and helping to improve the "terrible, broken" process of watching TV.
The Apple Executive explained that one of the best ways to enhance the "linear TV" experience is through the use of apps, which are now a significant part of the new Apple TV 2015 platform.
