Tesla has released a recent update to its Model S car which will provide owners a wider variety of Autopilot drive features.

Once downloaded, the code on Tesla's 'Version 7.0' software package tweaks the Model S' existing range of autonomous driving capabilities, reported Auto Express.

The Autopilot feature will require a one-time payment of £2,100 on new Tesla Mode S cars, or £2,500 if made on post-delivery.

On the other hand, all of the update's safety features - side collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, forward collision warning and speed limit warning -will all be available for free.

Among the changes introduced on 'Version 7.0' software package is an upgraded user interface which gives owners access to the updates' latest features.

Essentially, the new software appears as an additional check box in the settings menu of the Tesla Mode S which allows owners to turn the Autopilot drive mode on and off.

The recent update also includes a more complex tire monitoring system that effectively complements the Autopilot system'sother range of features, which includes auto steer, lane change and parallel park technology and "traffic aware" radar cruise system.

The cruise system allows the Model S to maintain a constant speed on motorways and dual carriageways, with no steering, throttle or brake input from the driver.

The system utilizes a combination of cameras, radar, ultrasonic sensors and owner-captured data to autonomously guide the car as it makes its way across a stretch of road.

The Model S' Autopilot feature has in fact saved the life of Seattle Uber driver John Hall, according to CBS.

In a video uploaded by Hall on YouTube, he showed how his car's Autopilot technology helped him avoid a collision with another vehicle by putting the Tesla Model S to a complete stop.

According to Hall, he was traveling slightly under 45 mph and mentioned in his video that he "did not touch the brake" and that the "car did all the work."

Tesla CEO Elon Musk noted that the Autopilot drive technology on the Tesla Model S car will not only ensure the safety of drivers but also give them greater freedom of navigation saying, "In the long term, it will be safer than a person driving."
