KARA Receives 'Most Popular International Group' at 'China Music Award'

Girl group KARA won the 'Most Popular International Group' award at the 'China Music Awards'.

Yesterday, KARA attended the '17th China Music Awards' in Macao and won the 'Most Popular CMA International Group' award.

KARA competed against U.K band One Direction and Korean groups Big Bang and 2NE1.

Unfortunately, member Han Seungyeon did not attend this event. The group appeared wearing black and white outfits, revealing their class.

KARA attended this award ceremony as Asia's representatives and performed their hit song, "Step" on stage as well.

After winning, the group commented, "We are honored to receive such as big award. We will come back to China soon to show our thanks to our fans here."

The 'China Music Awards' started in 1994 and is one of the biggest award ceremonies in China.

KARA's victory on winning the popularity award was a way to see just how popular KARA was overseas.

More than 40 other teams attended the ceremony as well.

KARA debuted in 2007 under DSP Media. They are made up of 5 members and their team name means 'sweet melody'.

They also gained much attention in Japan. They released their 'KARA Best Clips' DVD back in 2011 and ranked number 1 on the Oricon DVD Chart. They then became the first foreign artist to stay at the number 1 spot for 2 weeks.

Last year, they also won two awards as the "Golden Disk Awards" as well.

Just this past January, they held a New Year's concert at the Tokyo Dome and became there first Korean artist to perform there.

Last month, they released their Japan single, Bye Bye Happy Days, and ranked number 2 on the Oricon charts.
