Northeast Blizzard 2016 Storm Updates: Blizzard warnings remain in effect into Saturday night for more than 35 million people from northern Virginia to Cape Cod, including Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, and New York City.

Snow totals have topped 30 inches in at least four states as Winter Storm Jonas continues to hammer parts of the mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions. Airlines all over the country to cancel more than 5,000 flights for Friday and Saturday.

Extreme winds have been observed along the mid-Atlantic coast, with a peak gust of 85 mph at Assateague Island, Maryland, at 4:40 a.m. EST. Snow totals have reached 22-35 inches west, north, and northwest of the Beltway (locally 35″+), 17-24″ inches inside the Beltway, and 10-20 inches south and southeast of the Beltway.

Total snow accumulations of 16 to 30 inches are expected with some 30-36 inch totals well north and west of the District. 20-30 inches totals will be most common in the immediate metro region. Totals in the 12-20 inch range are most likely near the Bay into Southern Maryland.

Blizzard warnings stretch from Washington to NY with heavy snow likely to go even further north than that, stopping just short of Boston. The Blizzard is affecting dozens of East Coast airports. That included the three big airports serving New York City, where most of Saturday's schedule had been canceled at Newark Liberty, JFK and LaGuardia airports.

United Airlines suspended operations at its hubs at Dulles International, Newark Liberty International and other airports throughout the region ahead of the winter storm. United Airlines said it would not resume operations at Dulles and other Washington area airports until Monday.

United began shutting down operations Friday at Baltimore-Washington International, Dulles, Washington National, Newark, LaGuardia, and Philadelphia International Airport.
