Ian Somerhalder previously revealed that six or eight characters will die in "The Vampire Diaries" season 7.

In an interview with TV Guide, the "TVD" actor and director shared his thoughts on the series. "Can you believe this sh--? F---ing seven years! Isn't that crazy?" he said.

Somerhalder also admitted that "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 and 8 would give the production a wonderful opportunity to regain its popularity.

"I would look at this season as being a very, very important time to notch up our belts and really put our big boy and big girl pants on in terms of telling stories that connect back to the ways this show [once was]," he said.

"I thought we were going to get to do it more this year. There's been some great storytelling, but I'm anticipating being able to get down to brass tacks, which was this very specific, wonderful core group of characters that navigated the treacherous waters of what is Mystic Falls."

It was previously confirmed that "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will kill six to eight characters.

Speaking to EW, Ian Somerhalder revealed that fans can expect a big explosion in the coming installment of the series. "This car blew up and I was 200 feet away and I could still feel the heat and the percussion from this thing," he admitted.

"The audience isn't going to get the blast that I felt. What they're going to feel is real heartbreak for why that explosion happened."

According to Zap2It, major characters in the series such as the Salvatore brothers as well as Caroline and Bonnie will probably not be killed off in "The Vampire Diaries" season 7. Enzo, Matt and Tyler could be in danger while Nora, Mary Louise and Valerie will most likely die.

Rayna, who already has been targeted since the day she debuted, may not make it until the next season.
