Momoland Debuts With “JJan! Koong! Kwang!” Plus Comparisons With Twice and IOI
Momoland finally debuted with a song titled "JJan! Koong! Kwang!". On November 10 at midnight KST, MOMOLAND revealed the music video for their debut title track "JJan! Koong! Kwang!" off their first mini album "Welcome to MOMOLAND."
In the music video, the girls welcome you to MOMOLAND, a wonderful and fantastical world complete with Alice in Wonderland-esque optical illusions. The girls are in a colourful outfits and the dance is as quirky as the song and the music video. "Jjan! Koong! Kwang!" is an uplifting track matched with an cheerful beats and cute voices of the members. The colorful MV in which the girls wear lots of dresses covered in macaroons and other delicious sweets really went well with the song.
The girls of Momoland also came from a survival show "Finding Momoland" which was also produced by MNET. Like Twice, from MNET's "Sixteen", and IOI, from MNET's "Produce 101", Momoland is a girl group. Momoland is made up of the seven finalists, Hye Bin, Na Yun, Ah In, Yeon Woo, Joo E, Jane, and Nancy.
In an interview, they were asked as to how they fell about it. Member Yeonwoo responded by saying, "We are the latest girl group that did a survival show. Before us, TWICE and IOI sunbaes displayed great work [since the shows]. We want to do our best to emulate their passion and work ethic."
Another member, Hyebin added, "Momoland is a group that is like an amusement park, as the name suggests. We prepared music that might be heard at an amusement park. We will become a group that brings sounds that didn't exist before with different sound effects...We will be able to present various strengths because all 7 members are so unique."
"Finding Momoland" was not as successful as "Sixteen" or Produce 1010" so the girls debut is a bit lacklustre. But the people who followed them all throughout are hoping they will be more known soon.
