I.O.I’s Sejeong Shared Her Struggles About Her Family’s Poverty on JTBC’s ‘Life Menu’

Not everyone is born with a golden spoon, so does I.O.I's Sejeong. On January 12, Kim Sejeong shared a glimpse of her past to fans on JTBC's "Life Menu".

Although the show has a very bright atmosphere, Sejeong wasn't able to stop herself from reminiscing her childhood days when she was served with a bowl of jajangmyeon, a Korean black bean noodle dish, and tangsuyuk or the Korean version of the sweet and sour pork, according to a report by Dispatch Korea.

Koreaboo's article further explained that Sejeong shared that the two dishes were part of her childhood days. Unlike other celebrities who wanted to hide their past as much as possible, Sejeong humbly imparted to the audience and viewers of the show that her family had financial issues when she was growing up. She even shared that they receive stipends and subsidies from the government and she didn't hesitate to reveal that she even used a Hungry Child Food Card back then.

Sejeong also shared that since schools don't cook meals on holidays in the cafeteria, the card helped her a lot in surviving having decent meals which included the sumptuous jajangmyeon. She also revealed that just like other students and teens out there, she's also a fan of coupons which she uses to buy tangsuyuk.

Although her stories are filled with sadness and struggles, Sejeong was able to keep a straight face with smiles which gained praises from fans. The hosts of the show together with the other guests can't help but feel proud of an idol like Sejeong who proved to be a true role model to the Korean youth for not giving up on dreams despite how hard life can be.

Now that I.O.I is disbanding, Sejeong's perseverance doesn't waver as she is still performing well as part of another girl group, Gugudan. Kpop Starz hopes for the bloom of Sejeong's career. Fighting! Watch the video of her guesting below.
