"ChanHun" Trends Worldwide after Announcement of EXO's New Sub-Unit

After months of speculation (and constant spoilers from the two), SM Entertainment officially announced the new and upcoming sub-unit of the supergroup EXO consisted of Chanyeol and Sehun, or referred to by their massive fans as "ChanHun."

The statement made by the agency read:

"Chanyeol and Sehun are currently working hard to prepare for their first unit album, with the goal of releasing it in July. Please anticipate it."

Not long after the announcement, "ChanHun" topped the trending charts around the globe. The amalgamation hit the 8th spot of the Worldwide trends and also penetrated the Weibo Hot Search on June 5th. Suffice it to say that EXO-Ls around the world are ecstatic and have been highly anticipating the duo's return with an album.

The two EXO members first paired up in the SM Station's hit single "We Young" that was released in September of 2018. Reports also said that the forthcoming duo's album is now on its final polishment. Sources added that the they were hands-on and have put a lot of their input in perfecting the album.

While this news was not entirely surprising-given that Chanyeol and Sehun were seen flying to Los Angeles together, were spotted filming a presumed music video, and have constantly been posting cryptic posts on their respective Instagram pages-fans are evidently delighted upon learning the good news.

EXO's first sub-unit was CBX, which stands for Chen, Baekhyun, and Xiumin. The trio debuted in 2016 and has two successful albums "Hey Mama!" (2016), which charted at the Billboard Worldwide Albums and Gaon's album chart, and "Blooming Days" (2018), the album that received a multitude of nominations from various music award-giving bodies.

Apart from sub-units, EXO also has successful soloists: Chinese member Lay and the powerhouse's lead vocalist Chen. Lay became the first member to debut as a solo artist and has been thriving ever since. He has released two albums, "Lay 02 Sheep" (2016) and "Namanana" (2018), both of which he single-handedly composed and produced.

Upon the release of his second album, Lay becomes the highest-charted Mandopop artist on Billboard 200. He is slated to release his third album "Honey" on June 14.

Chen, on the other hand, released his solo album last April, titled "April, and a Flower." Fans had been anticipating his debut as a soloist, given his jaw-dropping vocals, past collaborations, and solo tracks that were used as part of several South Korean dramas' OSTs; thus, giving him the moniker "OST King."

The album, consisted of six poignant and soulful ballads, topped various music charts upon its release, namely Genie, Melon, Soribada, Buggs, Olleh Music, Naver Music, and Momople. Not only that but it also clinched the no. 1 spot in iTunes Top Albums in over 30 countries.
