TWICE to be awarded at the Newsis 2019 K-Wave Expo

On August 23, NEWSIS will host a Hallyu Expo wherein cultural icons and businesses who have contributions to Hallyu, the Korean Wave, will be given awards. TWICE will earn the "Hallyu Culture Grand Prize, also called as the "Minister of Culture, Sports, and Tourism Award" at the said expo. The girls are being recognized for their remarkable achievements in the USA and Japan, specifically in spreading the Hallyu wave.

According to Newsis, "Last month, TWICE released the fourth and fifth single, "HAPPY HAPPY" and "Breakthrough" respectively, which attained the Japan Records Association's Platinum Record Certification. A group is only given this honor if its album or track reaches more than 250,000 shipments in Japan." Newsis added, "TWICE has set a record, having eight consecutive platinum achievements starting from their Japan debut album "#TWICE" that was released on June 28, 2017, to these two new singles."

TWICE members, Dahyun and Tzuyu, will be the ones to attend the ceremony that day and receive the award on behalf of the whole group. The said event will take place in the Crystal Ballroom at the Lotte Hotel Seoul.

At this point, TWICE is having their "TWICELIGHTS" world tour, and recently, the group successfully held their concert in Kuala Lumpur on August 17 at Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil. In fact, the netizens and fans praised the girls for wearing long pants instead of sexy shorts during their performances to show respect to Malaysians. It is also said that TWICE is the first K-Pop girl group to do this out of respect for their culture. As we all know, Malaysia is a Muslim country.

The group's world tour will then continue on October 23 until February 22, with shows in seven cities of Japan - Hokkaido, Chiba, Osaka, Miyagi, Aichi, Fukuoka, and Shizuoka - and that is the end of their "TWICELIGHTS" tour.

On another note, the days after Newsis K-Wave Expo, TWICE will be attending a Lotte Duty-Free fan meet in Star Avenue, "Breakthrough" hi-touch at Chiba Makuhari Messe, then at INTEX, Osaka.

Meanwhile, the other K-Pop artists that will be given an award at Newsis 2019 K-Wave Expo are Kim Junsu and BTS. Kim Junsu will be accepting the "Korean Wave Culture Award" or the "Seoul Mayor Award." He would be participating in the ceremony and will be on a tour of Seoullo 7017 with Mayor Park and other dignitaries. BTS, on the other hand, is one of the artists who will be awarded the "Hallyu Culture Daesang."
