Gugudan's Kim Sejeong Talks About Music Desires, Gugudan, And Her Friendship With TWICE's Jihyo
Gugudan's Kim Sejeong talks about her latest activities as an artist, her life as a member of Gugudan and her current friendship with TWICE's Jihyo.
In an interview, Kim Sejeong shares her thoughts about her first-ever solo mini-album titled 'Plant.' Her mini-album features five tracks that were produced by the singer-songwriter Sunwoo Jung A, some of which she produced herself.
When the asked about self-producing, Kim Sejeong replied "I recently have seen a program that shows Ravi is the No.2 self-producing songwriter among all the Idols in South Korea. In which, I hope to be in the future a well. I want to work hard to make that dream happen."
The interview went deep and when Kim Sejeong was asked about the artists that she would like to have a collaboration with, she said, "I would definitely like to have Yoon Sang to write a song for me to sing someday, and I'd like to have the opportunity to be able to work with such a great artist like him. Aside from him, I would like to also have Jung Seung Hwan because we're close and we have the same vocal sound."
Kim Sejeong being a versatile artist both in the acting world to her music career, Kim Sejong shared "Above all music is my favorite. It is my passion, and I am very eager for researching music as well. Even when I was young, I dream of my future in this field and just never get tired of learning and studying music. It is just the same for me now. Music has been the most sentimental, unfrightening thing for me. I want to discover more about it and just keep on doing research about it."
Despite being busy doing her promotions for her album, Kim Sejeong revealed that she misses her co-members. "I just miss them all the time. Every time I compose a song, it always ends up being a song for the whole group. When I go blank and didn't know what to write, that is what I got to in the end. Honestly when we promote as a group I feel a little ease about it, but when now that I have to do all the promotions alone, I kind of feel a little nervous because I bear all the responsibilities myself. But I know that this is a process that I have to go through to be successful."
She also shared how TWICE's Jihyo helped her when she was in a difficult time in her career. "I'm a person that if I failed once it will take me time to get up and face the world again. They're also a time when I feel like I was burned out and everything seemed to be falling apart and I don't know what to do anymore. Even though I am a positive person, It all felt wrong at that time. I just could not continue like that, so I thought maybe I should rest for a while."
"I went to my mother's home in the countryside and talked to her about what' going on with me but that didn't settle me down. It was TWICE's Jihyo who gives me peace of mind. She's a good friend who really likes to know how to take care of other people. But at that moment, I wanted to be alone so I told her that 'I don't think I'm the best person to talk to and be around at that time." But Jihyo responded to her by saying "If you are going all by yourself, well we might be as well be alone together." So they went to places and traveled together, and helped her during her difficult time.
Kim Sejeong's album PLANT is set to release today March 17, at 6 P.M. KST
