f(x)'s Krystal Announces Retirement At Age 18: 'I Always Want To Be Remembered As Being Beautiful' Singer Says

Singer Krystal of the five-piece K-pop girl group f(x) shocked fans and her bandmates alike on Tuesday when she announced her plans to retire in the near future.

Krystal's comments came in the group's new television special for South Korea's Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation "Amazing f(x)."

When the girls of f(x) were asked to jot down their goals for their upcoming trip to New Zealand, their answers included becoming invisible, piloting a plane, conducting a flash mob, scuba diving and sky diving.

But it was the 18-year-old Krystal's goal for the future that took everyone by surprise-retirement.

As her band mates showed their sheer shock at first, Krystal attempted to explain her reasons for wanting to leave the group.

"Am I allowed to say this?" she asked.

"I don't want to show the public my increasing wrinkles and aging image. I always want to be remembered as being beautiful."

Although initially taken aback, the members of f(x) credited Krystal's self-awareness.

"Despite your young age, it seems like you've been thinking carefully about your future as a celebrity," one of the ladies said, according to the website allkpop.

Fan reaction to the news has been mixed.

K-pop fan Goldenkey feels that Krystal should change her attitude about beauty.

"I find it incredibly sad how she thinks becoming old and having wrinkles is not beautiful," Goldenkey wrote Tuesday in response to the allkpop report.

"I hope it's because she's still young, but it kind of hurts to hear something so superficial from my favorite member."

Kpopfanatic93 is crushed.

"F(x) hasn't even had a comeback yet," she wrote Tuesday.

"You can't do this to me/us. We don't even have an official fan club name yet....It's not fair."

But Lady Adm isn't holding her breath waiting for the f(x) singer's retirement.

"Lol, Krystal that was pretty vague," she wrote. "Either way, it doesn't sound like retirement will be happening too soon.

Krystal also opened up in her "Amazing f(x)" interview about the negative aspects of fame.

"I don't like places with a lot of people," she explained. "It made me so miserable whenever people stared at me."

Though Krystal has tried to come to terms with her idol status, she claims the process has been difficult for her.

"Since I'm a celebrity, I'm supposed to get used to and even enjoy people looking at me, but I can't," she said, adding, "I didn't choose the idol life...it chose me."
