Changmin Shares How Grateful He is to Those Who Supported Him on His Solo Promotions
Changmin of TVXQ had fun telling his solo promotional activities stories!
On April 14, the singer came to advertise his first mini-album "Chocolate" on "Park So Hyun's Love Game" at SBS PowerFM.
When the DJ applauded him on his solo debut, Changmin answered, "I thought that Yunho was amazing for releasing his first solo album after 16 years. As a singer, I had ambitions about creating as a solo artist and had fun working on my album, while feeling a proud sense of accomplishment."
Changmin got lots of encouragement from peers such as fellow TVXQ member Yunho and Minho of SHINee, who gave him a bouquet of flowers.
"[Super Junior] Kyuhyun even rode and encouraged me on when it was past midnight," he said.
"I'm so grateful. Even though he was having a rough time serving in the army, Minho remembered, so I felt touched. I hope you're feeling safe. I love you and thank you, Minho and Kyuhyun, for that. I always show my love for Kyuhyun in particular," he added.
Speaking of his title song "Chocolate," the TVXQ singer shared, "When I first heard the demo track, I could clearly imagine the performance and concept for this solo album, so I chose it right away."
He responded when questioned about feeling strained, "There was none. Your song doesn't get chosen just because you're an artist, but I felt proud that my name was included in the competition."
He added, "It was really meaningful as a singer of 17 years to participate as a lyricist in the title track that represents the album. I felt proud about getting acknowledged by someone else as well, so I told my family about it first."
Changmin went on to share what he felt about his fellow TVXQ member's absence.
"It's not easy to fill Yunho's void on stage. I trusted that I could do a good job since I've built up experience, but I could really feel Yunho's emptiness," he revealed.
Once a listener proposed the two members of the TVXQ sing each other's solo songs, Changmin replied, "That's difficult. Yunho's solo albums performance looks tiring, just by staring at them. It's difficult to pull it through as good as Yunho did."
Changmin recounted the story behind "Lie" and Chungha appearing on the album, after thinking about some of his b-side songs.
"I had first called her. This was after moving abroad that Chungha was in isolation. She recorded after that, and it was the last track to finish on the album," he said.
"Chungha was my No. 1 choice when I first got this album. We have no relation to each other, but through the company, I have cautiously approached her and feel thankful that she agreed," he added.
As for an artist with whom he loves to sing a duet with, Changmin said, "Chungha was one of the singers that I had wished for, but it is one that has come true. I want to appear in songs by other artists, if possible."
While enjoying time with his dog, he stated that he experienced the most soothing and peaceful time for himself and wrapped up his solo promotions with a letter to fans. "It's unfortunate, but I hope that it was a gift to fans. I'm sorry I promoted for a short amount of time, but please cheer me on while listening to the songs."
