On May 4, an official from IU's agency revealed that the K-pop singer and actress donated a generous sum for Children's Day.

IU reportedly donated 100 million won for Children's Day, set to be observed on May 5. She has been known for her philanthropic works and has given millions of won for the welfare of the younger generation. 

According to EDAM Entertainment, "I believe IU donated 100 million won for Children's Day." 

The official added, "I understand that it has been almost every year."

IU donated 100 million won through the Green Umbrella Children's Foundation, a children's welfare institution, and the money will be used for learning expenses for kids from low-income families and grandparents' families, as mentioned.

The K-pop idol has been associated with EDAM Entertainment since 2015 and has been steadily sponsoring the project. In particular, it has been continuously funded for 11 times over the past five years. Thus, a total amount of 820 million won is the estimated overall donation.

When the coronavirus pandemic spread significantly in March this year, the company also donated a total of 280 million won through various beneficiaries, including the International Relief Development NGO Good Neighbors, the Korean Medical Association, Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province and Seocho-gu, Seoul.

IU's story is one of the most inspiring among the K-pop idols, as she went through a hard time before rising to stardom. Her parents used to succumb to multitudes of debts, and as a result, she and her brother have to live with their grandmother. She got scammed by a fake agency who promised to train her to become an idol. Later on, as her perseverance continued. She is finally reaping the fruits of her labor.

In return, her advocacy on sharing her fortune is something fans have always admired about her, making her one of the most-loved K-pop soloists to date.

Meanwhile, she is set to launch her digital album on May 6 with the much-anticipated collaboration with the BTS member, Suga. The said album, titled "Eight," is expected to dominate the music scene internationally.
