Mother of the late star Goo Hara is to acquire a quarter of her estate even though she abandoned her when she was still a child.

The "Goo Hara Act" petitioned by the late idol's brother Goo Ho In, that parents should be barred from inheriting assets and properties of their children if they abandon their responsibilities as parents, have essentially failed.

The Legislation and Judiciary Committee of the National Assembly opened its first office conference on May 19 to analyze the current constitution on the property and to decide to "proceed evaluation," but taking into consideration that this is their final session of the 20th assembly, the bill is basically dropped.

As a result, civil law still applies, indicating that Goo Hara's biological parents are the first preference to inherit her properties.

Since her father gave her brother his privileges to the property, this implies that her absent mother acquires the remaining portion, even though more than 100,000 people have signed the petition.

Goo Hara's brother has talked about trying at the 21st National Assembly to have the bill passed again.

On March 18, Goo Ho In talked with the reporters in Seoul regarding his petition. His legal representative, Attorney Noh Jong Uhn, also gave his statement about this pursuit on the same day, which talked about Goo Ho In's desire to change inheritance laws.

On May 19, Goo Ho In wrote a lengthy statement on his Instagram account, describing why they are pushing the "Goo Hara Act."
"Hello, This is Goo Hara's older brother, Goo Ho In. 

I'm very thankful to all the friends and supporters who supported my sister Goo Hara and were in her last moments.

Four months have passed since Hara left us. I'm not going to forget my sister's gaze on me when she was in my arms.

As I recently mentioned in the media, I'm going through a hard time because of heritage issues with our mother, who decided to leave us, two siblings, while we were young.

At this moment that we should be remembering my sister who we miss so much, my family is having a far more difficult time because of this problem.

I have lodged a statutory motion for a 'Goo Hara Act' because I wish that no more households would have to go through the agony my family is going through. That'll imply my sister's death isn't going in vain.

I am very well aware that although the 'Goo Hara Act' passes, this will not be applied to my family's actual problem.

That being said, this is not only my personal desire but also Hara's, that there would no longer be problems in which the absent parents earn death benefits. This not only applies to the situation of our family, but also with the sinking of the Cheonan and Sewol Ferry.

And I am writing this in the desperate hope of honoring the name "Goo Hara" as a name that turns our culture into one that is stronger and just.
