BLACKPINK x Lady Gaga's "Sour Candy" Soars to No. 1 on Worldwide iTunes Song Charts!
BLACKPINK's collaboration with Lady Gaga's new song, "Sour Candy," is finally out!
On May 28, YG Entertainment, the agency of the K-pop female group, introduced Lady Gaga x BLACKPINK's newest track. The song was unveiled at 8:00 p.m. KST, a collaborative song showcased in the mega pop star's sixth full-length album, "CHROMATICA."
Initially, the album was set to kick off on May 29. However, it took fans by surprise that it got released a day earlier without notice. Soon enough, the hashtag #SourCandy trended on Twitter.
As soon as the song was dropped, BLINKs and fans of the international singer Lady Gaga expressed their happiness and excitement on various social sites and said that the most anticipated song of the year has been out. Fans also didn't hold back to declare that "Sour Candy" indeed issa bop!
In the 2 minutes and 38 seconds song, which features the quartet's vocals, the track started with Jennie's sweet voice singing "so-sour candy," and she is later on joined by Lisa to sing the chorus part. Then, Rosé followed to sing the first verse, along with Jisoo.
The lyrics of the song are written in English, which includes Korean as well, a unique pop song that is rarely released in the U.S.
Jisoo's part says, "You're the one who wrapped me up with the words, "acting expensive"/ called me "ideal."
Eventually, the song debuted as no. 1 in iTunes Worldwide Song Charts in 55 regions as of May 29 (6:00 a.m.).
With this achievement, BLACKPINK set a record once again in the music industry, being the first K-pop female act to reach no. 1 in iTunes in several countries than any track of any girl group.
Moving on, during the interview with BLACKPINK, the female idols shared their thoughts on their iconic collaboration with Lady Gaga and said, "I'm so honored and happy to work with our favorite artist Lady Gaga."
BLACKPINK also conveyed their message to their fandom, asking for support and said, "I hope BLINKs all over the world will enjoy the song as it is a fun song to work on." I hope many people will love it."
Previously, Lady Gaga said in a recent interview with a Japanese media outlet, "I proposed to BLACKPINK to work on the song with. It was an exciting and wonderful time to collaborate with them."
"BLACKPINK is a very creative and talented group. I'm proud to be the fifth member of BLACKPINK through this song," the pop star added.
On the other hand, this is not the first time that BLACKPINK collaborated with an international singer. The girl group also set a record in 2018, following their collaboration with Dua Lipa in the song, "Kiss and Make Up." It immediately rose to the charts of Billboard and British Official Singles Chart, two of the most prestigious pop charts.
Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is currently gearing up for their June pre-release, which is the start of their three-month-long promotion until their major comeback with a full-length album in September.
