EXO Baekhyun Shares Thoughts on Collabs, Success of "Delight," Gratitude to Fans, and More!
EXO's Baekhyun appeared as a guest on MBC FM4U's "Kim Shin Young's Hope Song at Noon" to talk about his second mini-album, "Delight," wherein he also opened up on a number of topics, involving collaborations, record sales and his appreciation for his fans.
Kim Shin Young first asked about the joint partnership between Baekhyun and BOL4 for the track "Leo," and he said, "Ahn Ji Young recorded the guide and sent it to me. I just loved it as soon as I heard the tune. I really liked her voice, and I happily decided to work together with her."
When asked how Baekhyun picks his collaborations, he clarified, "I don't have any set specifications or anything. I don't get that much collabs, but I'm listening to the song when I do, and I'm going to take it on if I feel more confident I'm going to be able to do that song excellently. Once I make those decisions, we go forward with our company and set everything up."
Baekhyun also decided to share that he would like to collaborate with Lee Moon Sae or partake in a sentimental ballad for his next collaborative project.
Kim Shin Young asked if it feels incredible to become first as an EXO member and as a solo act Baekhyun since his second mini-album "Delight" not only broke record sales platforms but also sold more than 700,000 copies during its first week.
The EXO member then responded, "I just can not believe it at first. Our fans already have purchased so many albums from EXO even if I told them not to purchase large amounts, and to concentrate more on purchasing stuff for themselves, like padded jackets. They chose not to listen to me, and they bought my album."
He continued to address both his appreciation and concern for EXO-Ls, saying, "I'm worried they're going to feel like purchasing my album is a must. I'd be pleased if our fans used their money to buy necessities and keep what's remaining behind to purchase album. I pray they don't see it as a requirement."
Baekhyun was also asked if he had the expectation of a music program victory for fans, and he said, "I've been talking about a lot of different possibilities. In my teaser photo, there is a point in time in which I wiped off my lipstick. I think I should do that."
Baekhyun breaks the record, together with his album stats, while being on the radio show. Kim Shin Young commented, "Given your reputation as a man of many records, you just set the record for having the most number of listeners at one time on an MBC radio program. You set a another record."
She added, "Radio department members have also come here. They stated they had never once witnessed so many fans listening to a radio program."
Baekhyun ended the segment by saying, "This album has been a challenge for me. I decided to take on a challenging genre and put my own twist to it, and I am so pleased with all the love and support that I have got. I'm trying to pay back all the affection I've received."
