Perhaps the most famous LGBTQ+ K-pop artist out there, Holland is well-known as the media's first openly gay K-pop idol. The soloist debuted in January of 2018 with "Neverland," and his music video featured same-sex kiss scenes between Holland and a male actor. When asked about why he wanted to make his debut as an openly gay idol, he said that he wanted to speak up on his experiences with assault and be a voice for queer minorities.

2. Harisu

Harisu is a transgender model, actress, and singer who initially made her debut as a soloist in 2001 with her first album "Temptation." Her popularity inspired an all-transgender group called Lady. Harisu is not only active in Korea, but as well as in Taiwan and Hong Kong. She underwent sex reassignment surgery in 1999 in Japan.

Now that we've talked about Harisu let's talk about Lady. The all-transgender girl group debuted in 2005 with four members: Sinae, Sahara, Binu, and Yuna, and have stated that their group drew inspiration from Harisu. Sadly, the group only promoted for two years as their music videos were not well-received with the South Korean public.

4. Choi Hanbit

Hanbit is a transgender singer, actress, and model, who debuted in the 2016 girl group Mercury. She first gained attention after joining a modeling contest in 2009, which was sponsored by SBS. After debuting as a soloist in 2015 with "Not My Style," she joined the girl group. She underwent sex reassignment surgery in 2006 with the support of her parents, stating that living with a female body has given her the greatest sense of euphoria.

5. MRSHLL

MRSHLL, also known as Marshall Bang, first came out in a Time Out magazine interview in 2015. Originally from Los Angeles, MRSHLL traveled to South Korea to make his debut as an R&B soloist and debuted in 2018. While he mentioned that many of his friends thought it would be better to stay in the closet, MRSHLL chose to be his authentic self and came out as gay.
