Top 5 K-pop Music Videos To Showcase The LGBTQ+ Pride Month

K-pop idols are known for their colorful entertainment. Thus, some of them have embraced the LGBTQ+ through forms of manifestations. But despite the colorful K-pop scene, South Korea is not totally on a stronghold when it comes to its type of songs and music videos.

According to a Pew survey in 2014, half of the country's population sees homosexuality as something "unacceptable." It is also evident that in K-pop, there are rarely openly gay artists, and LGBTQ+ related songs are not usually seen.

However, there a few music videos that showcase the community. Here are five of K-pop videos you might watch, featuring the LGBTQ+.

"One More Day" by Sistar & Giorgio Moroder

The 2016 collaboration between Sistar and Giorgio Moroder showcases lesbian love. It shows two women looking like best friends, but when looking into the music video, the girls are seemingly passionate about each other. "One More Day" is brave enough to tackle a message about gender equality in South Korea.

"Love & Girls" by Girls' Generation

Girls' Generation, one of the leading K-pop female groups, has their own music video that gives the LGBT community a pride of their own. The Japanese song, "Love & Girls," in 2013 displays drag queens among mobs of women of all ages. The festive and colorful set also represents the LGBTQ community that they are known for.

"History" by Turbo feat. Harisu

One of the clearest examples of Music videos that showcase the pride month of LGBTQ is the 2001 "History" by Turbo feat. Harisu. It was the very first track in Korea that featured a transgender person, Harisu. It was a challenge for her to open herself from gender stereotyping but a great leap as well to courageously open up about transgender in South Korea.

"Animal" by Jo Kwon

The iconic 2012 "Animal" of Jo Kwon is something women should watch. His high inch-heels would definitely awe women when he effortlessly made his moves without a mess. J-Hope was even featured on the said video which is prior to his debut with BTS. This year, Jo Kwon sand the LGBT's anthem, "Born This Way" showing how much he supports them.

"Please Don't" by K.Will

K.Will's 2012 music video was a typical love story of a boy who seems to be heartbroken after his love got married to another friend. However, the twist of events came at the end of the video, which made a lot of K-pop netizens felt stunned. It depicts the real struggle of men who are not open about their identity in society.
