Big Hit Entertainment to Debut a Girl Group Soon + See Details

After a long time, Big Hit Entertainment announces its plans to debut a new girl group.

Big Hit Entertainment and Source Music are gearing for a new girl group that is expected to debut next year. On the 13th of August, Big Hit's official YouTube channel released a video that shares the content of the company's corporate meeting for the second half of 2020. They have tackled upcoming ventures with their artists, including BTS, online and offline concerts, and debuting new groups.

Bang Si Hyuk announced that part of the plans of the agency is a new girl group from Source Music that will be launched in 2021. Initially, he mentioned that the selection process started with global auditions and hinted that it is composed of multi-national members who are language savvy. However, further details are yet to be unveiled soon.

"The blockbuster girl group will be created under the production of Big Hit Division through a sensuous, creative team with the supervision of Min Hee-jin of Big Hit CBO with the collaboration of Source Music," he said.

At a press briefing held at Dongdaemun Design Plaza in February, Big Hit announced that it would debut a new idol group every year for three years starting this year, adding that its plan for the "Plus Global Audition" for the girl group's debut is on 2021.

The official website of "Plus Global Audition" sets seven scheduled dates among different cities in the world for the auditions this coming October.

  • October 5 Los Angeles and New York City
  • October 12 Perth and Singapore
  • October 13 Melbourne
  • October 19 Busan, Gwangju, Osaka, Sapporo and Taipei
  • October 20 Seoul, Tokyo, and Kaoshiung
  • October 26 Hanoi and Bangkok
  • October 27 Ho Chi Minh

According to www.plusglobalaudition.com, an online registration should be done by aspiring girls who are born from 2001 to 2007 without nationality restrictions. Other details is found on their website.

For the record, the only female group that debuted under Big Hit Entertainment is GLAM in 2012. The band composed of Trinity, Zinni, Dahee, Jiyeon, and Miso were the first and the last from the agency. Therefore, this news is something fresh among avid K-pop fans.

Some have been speculating that Big Hit has been restricted from launching another girl group for some time, since GLAM faced a scandalous controversy that led to their disbandment in 2015. Dahee, one of the members, was found guilty of blackmailing South Korean actor Lee Byung Hun.

Meanwhile, Big Hit Entertainment has successfully honed BTS, emerging them as the top-ranking KPOP group to date.
