BLACKPINK "THE ALBUM" Surpasses One Million Pre-Orders

It's an understatement that fans are excited for BLACKPINK's first-ever full-length studio album. As of the morning of October 2, Friday, "THE ALBUM" has surpassed one million pre-orders!

Within the first six days of the opening of pre-orders for the album, it surpassed 800,000 units sold.

The combined number of orders from countries around the world shows that they have surpassed one million pre-orders, with there being over 670,000 orders in the United States and 340,000 in Europe. YG Entertainment previously stated that 18,888 limited edition long plays had sold out. In total, the number of pre-orders exceeds one million.

The physical album will be released on October 6, Tuesday, four days after the digital drop. Because of this, the number of orders is expected to keep rising.

BLACKPINK is the first K-pop girl group in 52 years to achieve to surpass one million sales in South Korea. The last record-holder was the girl group The Pearl Sisters with the song "Shin Joong Hyen & Soul Sound" in 1968.

BLACKPINK will be releasing the digital version of "THE ALBUM" alongside the music video for the title track "LOVESICK GIRLS" on October 2, 1 PM KST. "THE ALBUM" has been drawing explosive attention from fans all around the world, as it is the group's first full-length album in four years since their debut. Fans are especially excited about the title track, as it has been reported that members Jennie and Jisoo participated in composing and writing the lyrics.

"LOVESICK GIRLS" already has fans hooked with just its teasers, showing off an addictive whistle sound reminiscent of one of their debut song "WHISTLE" alongside a guitar riff. Fans are speculating it is a country-style sound with a dark yet dreamy twist. BLACKPINK is expected to show off their girl crush charms to fans both in the East and the West.

The music video is also expected to show off BLACKPINK's emotions. In the teasers, the girls are all seen looking downcast or tired. That paired with the title "LOVESICK GIRLS" has fans anticipating the music video.
