BOL4 Ahn Ji Young to Go on Hiatus Due to Her Health Condition
BOL4's Ahn Ji Young will be taking a break from activities due to her deteriorating health condition. On Wednesday, Nov. 11, the singer's agency Shofar Music released an official statement concerning her health status and future activities.
According to the label, Ahn Ji Young has been going to medical centers since the first half of this year because her anxiety symptoms start to worsen. It was revealed that she has been taking prescriptions and receiving therapy treatment. Despite this, her anxiety symptoms continued to become serious.
After realizing that the artist would experience difficulty carrying out her activities due to her recently worsened health condition, Shofar Music decided to delay Bolbbalgan4's promotions until she fully recovers.
The entertainment agency further stated, "Our artist's health is our top priority, and we will focus on her health by postponing all activities for the time being. We apologize for causing concern to fans and all the people involved with the sudden news. We ask you to refrain from speculation or misunderstanding related to Jiyoung's health and activities."
"We will do our best to help Jiyoung recover her health, and we ask that you support her until she returns in good health," Shofar Music added.
BOL4 Ahn Ji Young recently returned to the K-Pop scene with her new single album titled "Filmlet," which she released on Nov. 4. The album contains the title track "Dancing Cartoon," defined as a funky medium tempo song composed by Jiyoung and Vanilla Man. The female artist also wrote the single lyrics about continuously confessing love to someone and becoming braver after every rejection.
The music video of "Dancing Cartoon" was also revealed on Wednesday, Nov. 4, and it features DAY6 Wonpil. As of Nov. 11, the MV has reached more than 430,000 views. BOL4 Ahn Ji Young also dropped the music video for her other new song, "Red Lipstick," the B-side track of her single album "Filmlet."
Bolbbalgan4 Ahn Ji Young covered BoA's "Atlantis Princess" this past July for the SM STATION project called "Our Beloved BoA" to celebrate BoA's 20th anniversary of debut. Other SM artists also sang BoA's tracks, including "Garden in the Air' (by EXO's Baekhyun), "Only One" (by Gallant), "Milky Way" (by Red Velvet), and "Tree" (by SM Classics).
Last May, the female idol launched a collaboration single "Leo" with EXO's Baekhyun. It is a pre-release track for her new album, "Puberty Book ⅠⅠ A Flower The Butterfly Has Seen." The track was written by BOL4 Ahn Ji Young and Vanilla Man. It follows the story of being happy, even just seeing the person you love.
That same month, the singer released the said album along with the music video of the title track "Hug." Jiyoung wrote the lyrics of the song and co-composed it with Vanilla Man. "Hug" talks about the warm, fuzzy feeling people experience when they are about to meet the person they love.
