Aespa Announces Official Fandom Name + Shares Thoughts on Nearing Debut

SM Entertainment's new girl group Aespa has finally revealed their fan club name and shared statements regarding their oncoming debut.

Aespa is a four-member female act that has an advanced "avatar" concept. The word "aespa" is derived from the terms "avatar," "experience," and "aspect." Aespa members include Winter, Karina, Ningning, and Giselle. The group is set to drop its debut single titled "Black Mamba" on Nov. 17 at 6:00 p.m. KST.

"Black Mamba" is described to be a powerful dance track established on a signature synth sound, a strong bass, and a catchy hook that seems like a chanting spell. The lyrics of the song unfolds the unique world of Aespa in which "Black Mamba" acts as the antagonist that threatens the world and disturbs the connection between Aespa members and their avatar counterparts.

On Nov. 17, ahead of the new girl group's debut, numerous outlets reported that SM Entertainment had confirmed the fan club name of Aespa. Through Aespa's V Live channel, the management agency stated that the band's fandom name would go by the name "MY," which is pronounced like the English word. The word "MY" means "my precious friend."

On that same day, all four Aespa members revealed what they feel about their upcoming debut.

In statements issued by SM, Karina shared, "I still can't believe it's real. I can feel the pressure, but the feelings of wanting to show the world a good song as well as a good performance are even stronger."

Giselle stated, "It feels so new and strange. The fact that so many people are showing interest in us makes me want to work harder. I want to keep showing how I can change."

Winter said, "Being able to show the performance that I have practiced for so long is so exciting and nerve-wracking. I am to become someone who can show people a bright and good image as aespa's Winter. Fighting!"Lastly, Ningning shared, "I'm so grateful for the people who cheered on us every time new teasers come out. I really want to sing and dance on stage as soon as possible. Aespa will show you great performance, so I hope we can enjoy it together."

In the past few days, SM Entertainment has shared the video teasers for "Black Mamba." One clip is labeled as the intro for the song, and it features Aespa member Karina along with South Korean model Jang Yoon Ju. The other one is the music video teaser that showcases a little bit of Karina's singing skills and the song's dance moves.

Following the drop of "Black Mamba" on Nov. 17 at 6:00 p.m. KST, Aespa will have its debut stage on Nov. 19 at 6:00 p.m. KST. It will be broadcast on the rookie girl group's YouTube channel. It will feature the band's debut single performance version in which augmented reality (AR) components will be used, and sophisticated camerawork will be done to create a fantasy-like stage. This aims to present Aespa's vigorous performance.
