Stray Kids' ‘Back Door’ Selected as One of TIME’s ‘Top 10 Best Songs of 2020’

On Monday, Nov. 23 EST, TIME Magazine announced their "Top 10 Best Songs of 2020". Among the numerous songs that were successfully included in a list is Stray Kids' "Back Door," which shines as the only K-pop song to make it!

Read more about it here.

TIME Magazine introduces the list by citing that some of the best songs were made all around the world, including Seoul, South Korea. TIME Magazine claims these songs "strut, commiserate, titillate, and disarm." If we go down the list, Stray Kids's "Back Door" ranks at eight.

Stray Kids was chosen for its multi-layered production and how experimental it is. "Back Door" does not conform to a single style and instead opts for a complex sound. "Back Door" includes theatrical airhorns, catchy R&B breaks, jazz portions, and a chorus that both incorporates trap and electronic, EDM synths that could easily get a crown in a festival or a club vibing to the music.

According to TIME Magazine, it is not hard to become captivated by the song's dramatic nature, thanks to the multi-layered production and the explosive energy of all eight members in Stray Kids. The publication notes that Stray Kids only debuted three years are but are increasingly proving themselves in the increasingly globalized and free-wheeling pop world - not just K-pop, but the pop genre in general.

TIME Magazine also commended the first and last line of the song, which is said in English: "Hey, you wanna come in?" It is noted as a way to welcome everyone into the fold, proving that K-pop is not a genre just for Koreans - It is for everyone.

Stray Kids stands on this list with other big-name Western artists. Other acts who had successfully made it to the list are Oneohtrix Point Never, Morgan Wallen, Daoi Freyr, Mac Miller, Bree Runway, Christine, and the Queens. Collaboration tracks were also included in the list, such as "WAP" by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, "Yo Pereo Sola" remix by Bad Bunny, Ivy Queen and Nesi, and "Uwrongo" by Prince Kaybee, Shimza, Black Motion, and Ami Faku.

"Back Door" was released on Sep. 14 this year as the lead title track of their album "In Life." The album is a repackaged album of "Go Live," which was released on June 17. While the song peaked at number 79 in the Korean Hot 100 chart by Billboard Korea, it peaked at number two in Billboard's World Digital Song Sales chart, showing the song's popularity in the West.

Additionally, "Back Door" did not enter the Gaon Digital Chart, but it debuted and peaked number 11 on the Gaon Download Chart and number 45 on the Gaon BGM Chart.

Congratulations, Stray Kids!
