SEVENTEEN Dominates Japan's 'HMV Best of 2020' Chart with Five Albums

South Korean boy group SEVENTEEN has taken over one of Japan's major charts, "HMV Best of 2020," with their five albums!

On Nov. 27, Lawson Entertainment released the "HMV Best of 2020," an annual HMV ranking in Japan. And based on the chart, SEVENTEEN has lined up their albums from the No. 1 spot to No. 4. The band's second Japanese single album, "Fallin' Flower," ranked first. Then, it was followed by their seventh mini-album, "Heng:garæ" in second place, third is their second Japanese mini-album "24H," and fourth is their special album "Semicolon."

On top of that, "An Ode," which SEVENTEEN released in September last year, peaked at No. 10 on the "HMV Best of 2020" chart. "Fallin' Flower" even landed on No. 5 in the Oricon's singles ranking for the first half of the year. What's more impressive is that the boy band was the only Korean artist to have made it to the Top 10!

This is not the first time that SEVENTEEN has made achievements with these albums. Even right after the albums were released, they have been reaching impressive feat. "Fallin' Flower" was released last April 1 of this year, and upon its launching, it debuted at No. 1 on Oricon's daily singles chart. The band also managed to sell more than 400,000 album copies only in its first week, securing the No. 1 spot on Billboard's Japan Hot 100 Chart.

In May, "Fallin Flower" has been officially certified double platinum by The Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) after the album exceeded 500,000 shipments.

On June 22, "Heng:garæ" was launched, and it immediately topped Hanteo's weekly charts. Not only that, the boy band has broken its record for the highest first-week sales after the album sold 1 million copies in less than one week, making SEVENTEEN official million sellers.

"Heng:garæ" also took the No. 1 spot on iTunes Top Albums charts in 27 countries around the world. The boy band then became the first foreign male artist to attain this milestone after 12 years since Backstreet Boys.

On Sept. 9, SEVENTEEN released "24H," which debuted at No. 1 on Oricon Weekly Album Chart. A month later, the album received an official platinum certification from RIAJ after selling more than 250,000 copies. Then, on Oct. 19, the boy band launched the special album "Semicolon." But before its release, the album was already making headlines as it was reported that a million copies were already sold in pre-orders alone. "Semicolon" is the group's second album to hit a million mark, following "Heng:garæ."

SEVENTEEN is a South Korean all-male group formed by Pledis Entertainment in 2015 when the band made its official debut with the mini-album "17 Carat." The boy band is made up of 13 members, namely S. Coups, Jeonghan, Joshua, Jun, Hoshi, Wonwoo, Woozi, DK, Mingyu, The8, Seungkwan, Vernon, and Dino. These boys are divided into three sub-units that are based on their specialization.

"Hip-Hop" unit consists of S.Coups, Mingyu, Vernon, and Wonwoo; "Performance" unit is composed of Jun, The8, Hoshi, and Dino; and "Vocal" unit comprises Jeonghan, Joshua, Woozi, Seungkwan, and DK.
