On Sunday, Dec. 6, the 2020 Mnet Asian Music Awards commenced their awards ceremony with the theme "NEW-TOPIA". Unlike the previous years, this year's ceremony took place as "untact", meaning there was no face-to-face contact and no live audience due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The ceremony was broadcast live for K-pop fans around the world and was hosted by Song Joong Ki. This is the 22nd ceremony in the award show's history.

This is the second year in a row in which BTS swept all four Daesangs. On top of their Daesangs, the septet won a total of eight awards, meaning they won each category the group was nominated for. They are the group with the most amount of wins and nominations this year.
