Former 'I-Land' Contestant Hanbin to Perform at '2021 New Year's Eve Live' as Pre-Opening Act

Former I-LAND contestant Hanbin will be attending Big Hit labels' joint concert "2021 New Year's Eve Live" presented by Weverse and will perform as the pre-opening act.

The star-studded lineup for the NYE concert is set to include Big Hit's BTS, TXT, and Lee Hyun, Pledis Entertainment's boy group NU'EST and BUMZU, Source Music's GFRIEND, and Belift Lab's rookie group ENHYPEN. Recently, it was revealed that there will be special guests for the event. Fans can expect spectacular performances from South Korean singer-songwriter Shin Hae Chul and American entertainer Steve Aoki, and American singer-songwriters Lauv and Halsey.

On Dec. 9, Belift Lab revealed that the upcoming joint concert will feature former I-LAND contestant Hanbin as well. He was assigned for the pre-opening performance ahead of the main "2021 New Year's Eve Live" show. Following the announcement, fans, who have known Hanbin since June when the survival reality show "I-LAND" started, seemed very excited about his inclusion in the list. In fact, his name trended on Twitter with several thousands of fans tweeting about him.

Meanwhile, Big Hit's "2021 New Year's Eve Live" was previously announced to be both online and offline with limited seating arrangement to prevent the spread of COVID-19. But later on, the label has decided to cancel the offline event and make the concert completely virtual because of the sudden rise of confirmed cases.

The concert is scheduled to happen on Thursday, Dec. 31 from 9:30 p.m. KST. Weverse has announced that the pre-order tickets are now available until the show date, particularly until 11 p.m. KST. Tickets can only be purchased through Weverse's official website. For early birds, tickets will come with a special gift designed by one of the members of a particular group.

With the theme "We've Connected," the New Year's Eve concert will feature music and stages under four themes: "WE," "RE," "NEW," and "2021 Concert." And besides the main performances, there will be a meet and greet that will be held online.

Born in Hanoi, Vietnam on Jan. 19, 1998, with the birth name Ngô Ngọc Hưng, Hanbin is a trainee under Belift Lab, a media company jointly built by Big Hit Entertainment and CJ E&M. After undergoing training for eleven months, he participated in "I-LAND," a reality program organized by Belift Lab. The competition show took place this year from June to September.

In the seventh episode of the program, Hanbin ranked twelfth based on the global votes and so he was able to move onto the next round and eventually became one of the final 12. However, he was eliminated in episode 11, thus failing to debut as a member of the rookie group ENHYPEN.

Ahead of his participation in the survival show, Hanbin is the founder of the Vietnamese dance crew named CAC. He was also a member of the group, which is very famous in Vietnam on social media. Although he didn't make it to the final lineup of ENHYPEN, Hanbin still had a solo fan-meet just last October. He is the only "I-LAND" contestant to have such event.
