BTS, TWICE, BLACKPINK, and More: ‘Who’s Fandom Award’ Reveals Top 16 Candidates

Global fans, you can now vote for your favorite groups and fandoms from the top 16 candidates of the "Who's Fandom Award" at the Seoul Music Awards. Keep on reading to learn more.

The 30th High1 Seoul Music Awards has partnered with the global K-pop fandom platform "Who's Fan." On Dec. 15, at 11:00 a.m. KST, the platform will be holding their first vote within their top 16 candidates to determine their grand prize winner.

Candidates for the top 16 groups include prominent K-pop artists and fandoms. Some notable nominees include BTS, EXO, SEVENTEEN, BLACKPINK, GOT7, TWICE, and NCT. These candidates were originally selected through a "Top 40" vote. The candidates of the 16 groups were divided into four groups from A to D. Within these four groups, the candidates with have 1:1 votes, with three to four candidates in each group.

Each vote will earn one point at the "Who's Fandom Award." The two candidates from each group that has the most votes during the voting period will be selected as the top eight candidates.

For the first day of voting, BTS, GOT7, MAMAMOO, NCT, BLACKPINK, SEVENTEEN, TXT, and TREASURE are expected to be in a fierce competition, with people speculating that groups BTS and BLACKPINK will quickly rise to the top. Previously, the voting for the top 40 received much attention from fans around the world, with there being more than 640,000 votes cast for all the groups.

BTS is expected to be at the top, as they are the best-selling artist in South Korea, and their album, "Map of the Soul: 7" is the best-selling album in South Korean history. This year, they were named as TIME Magazine's "Entertainer of the Year." The publication previously dubbed them as the "Princes of Pop" and their "Next Generation Leader." Forbes Korea has named BTS as the most influential celebrities in South Korea in 2018 and 2020 and ranked 43rd in the Forbes Celebrity 100 in 2019 as one of the world's top-earning celebrities.

BLACKPINK is also expected to make the top due to their immense popularity. The girl group is the highest-charting female act on the Billboard Hot 100 and the Billboard 200, peaking at number 13 and number two, respectively. BLACKPINK is also the first K-pop girl group to enter and top the Billboard's Emerging Artist chart. In the United Kingdom, BLACKPINK is the K-pop group to have the most top 40 hits. BLACKPINK was named as the third most powerful celebrity in 2020 by Forbes Korea and is the first K-pop girl group to be included in Forbes' "30 Under 30 Asia" list.

Fans have already started voting and rooting for their favorite artists through social media and the "Who's Fandom" app. Members of the different fandom are encouraging others to vote for the "Who's Fandom Award," with many predicting the results of who will be in the top eight.

The High1 Seoul Music Awards, also known as the Seoul Music Awards, is a major award show that was started in 1990. It is presented every year by Sports Seoul to acknowledge those with outstanding achievements in the music industry in South Korea.

All of the nominees are singers, idols, and musicians who have released albums this year. The winners are determined with 30 percent mobile votes, 40 percent digital downloads and albums, and 30 percent judges' scores.
