PURPLE KISS Shares What They Want to Learn from Their Senior Group MAMAMOO

The rookie group PURPLE KISS revealed the ability their senior group MAMAMOO possesses they want to learn from them.

More than six years after MAMAMOO debuted, RBW finally has a new all-female band, called PURPLE KISS. The rookie group consists of seven members, namely Park Jieun, Na Goeun, Dosie, Swan, Ireh, Chaein, and Yuki. PURPLE KISS made its pre-debut on Nov. 26 when they released the digital single "My Heart Skip a Beat" along with the song's performance video.

In a recent interview with ESQUIRE Korea, the new girl group talked about different interesting things. At one point, PURPLE KISS's rapper Dosie revealed that she wanted to join RBW because of MAMAMOO. The members were also asked what they want to learn from their seniors. PURPLE KISS's Goeun brought up one of MAMAMOO's strongest distinct abilities: their versatility.

Goeun stated, "We think that MAMAMOO is not limited to a certain concept or genre. So we would like to learn their ability to pull everything off." MAMAMOO is indeed known for challenging themselves on different concepts since they debuted. In 2014, the quartet made its debut with a retro, blues-inspired track titled "Mr. Ambiguous." In 2015, the band made a comeback with a funky R&B song "Um Oh Ah Yeah," then the following year, they went for a mature and sexy concept with "Decalmanie."

In 2018, MAMAMOO became well known worldwide with the soft, boho-inspired "Starry Night." In the same year, they switched to a Latin pop with "Egotistic." In 2019, the girl group showcased three different styles: the reggaeton-inspired party single "Gogobebe," a mellow ballad "Wind Flower," and hip hop "HIP." And this year, the retro-themed song "Dingga" and charismatic and fiery "AYA" were launched.

Apart from being versatile, PURPLE KISS's Goeun also said that they want to learn the way MAMAMOO performs on stage. The rookie idol stated that "they are so relaxed" when they are performing and they appear to have "so much fun" while on stage. Noting how successful MAMAMOO has become over the years, it's no wonder the rookie group looks up to them a lot.

PURPLE KISS is the first girl group of RBW after six years since MAMAMOO's 2014 debut. The rookie group is expected to make its official debut in early 2021. The band actually comprises seven members, but their pre-debut single "My Heart Skip A Beat" only featured six members since Swan is currently on temporary hiatus due to health reasons.

The "purple" in the group's name refers to the musical color of each member's various personalities like a purple that is made by mixing various colors. Meanwhile, the "kiss" in the name conveys the meaning of expressing love to the public through various forms.

Before ending up with the name "PURPLE KISS," Dosie said during the interview with ESQUIRE Korea that they had a lot of candidates for their group name. She shared that the members first thought of going with the name "LICHIT," which is a combination of the words "listen" and "watch." However, "LICHIT" was not approved and RBW's CEO later suggested the name "PURPLE KISS."
