Amazer Broadcasts 2020 APAN Awards; Global Fans Watch BTS, Hyun Bin, and More

The 2020 APAN MusicStar Awards, which recognizes excellence in South Korean television and music, and promotion of the global Hallyu wave, was broadcast to the rest of the world thanks to leading K-Pop platform Amazer.

2020 APAN Star Awards

Hyun Bin, best known to the next generation of K-Pop fans and audiences as Captain Ri Jeong-Hyeok in the tvN hit series "Crash Landing on You," received the 2020 APAN Star Awards Daesang (Grand Prize). In the series, Hyun Bin portrays a North Korean soldier who fell in love with the South Korean heiress Yoon Se-Ri, portrayed by Son Ye-Jin. 

Aside from Hyun Bin's Daesang, the K-Drama phenomenon "Crash Landing on You" also earned the Best Supporting Actor Award for Kim Young Min, Best Supporting Actress Award for Kim Sun-Young, and of course, the leading lady Son Ye-Jin received the KT Seezn Star Award.

Other awardees for the Popularity Awards - which are decided solely by fan votes - include "It's Okay to Not Be Okay" lead Kim Soo-Hyun for the Popular Star Award, Actor Category; Seo Yea-Ji from the same series as the Popular Star Awardee for the Actress Category.

Meanwhile, the Drama of the Year Award was won by the JBTC series Itaewon Class, which stars Park Seo-Joon, Kim Da-Mi, Yoo Jae-Myung, and Kwon Nara. Its original soundtrack, "Sweet Night," sung by BTS member V, also bagged the Best OST Award.

Right after the day after the APAN Star Awards, it was time for recognizing the top K-Pop artists of the past year across different categories, streamed globally through the Amazer app. Different groups and solo artists including BTS, Got7, IZ*ONE, Kang Daniel, Lim Young-Woong, MONSTA X, NCT 127, Seventeen, The Boyz, and TWICE graced the event as the APAN Top 10 Artists, or its Bonsang acts.

The Daesang (Grand Prize) for the 2020 APAN Music Awards was awarded to BTS. The Represent Song of the Year went to MONSTA X while TWICE bagged the Represent Record of the Year. Lastly, NCT 127 Rounded the Top 4 groups as it secured the Represent Artist of the Year Award.

In its Popularity Awards, determined through the Idol Champ and the KT Seezn apps, Blackpink won the Best Music Video award while Kang Daniel got the Best Performance Awards. The former Wanna One member also won the KT Seezn Star Award.

Originally scheduled for November 28, 2020 at the Grand Peace Hall, Kyung Hee University Seoul Campus, the 2020 APAN Music Awards was indefinitely postponed due to reimposed social distancing rules due to a new rise in COVID-18 cases in the South Korean capital and neighboring metropolitan locations. Nominees, and later winners, were revealed online instead. The awards ceremony found its final schedule on January 24th.

These two huge events were made available to global fans thanks to the Amazer app. The international media partner boasts an expansive global presence compared to its fanbase at the heart of the Korean Wave, with 96 percent of Amazer users coming from 175 countries aside from South Korea - including the US, Vietnam, Brazil, Indonesia, and Spain.
