CL Becomes First Korean Female Solo Artist to Appear in an American TV Commercial

CL, a former 2NE1 member, is becoming more recognized in the United States as the Korean female solo artist was selected to be a model for a particular TV commercial in the country!

CL Appears in an American TV Commercial for the First Time

On Feb. 14, Taco Bell launched their latest TV commercial titled "Eat Like You" for their "build-your-own $5 cravings box." It was broadcast throughout the nation and features K-pop solo artist CL and several other celebrities such as actor Noah Centineo, TikTok star Nava Rose, drag queen Onyx Black, BMXer Brad Simms, and more.

In the TV commercial, CL acts as a well-known musician like she is in reality. The singer wears a gorgeous fur coat as she leaves an event with her bodyguards escorting her outside. She was then surrounded by fans who are taking photos of her. Two fans riding in a car suddenly saw CL and were stunned to see her. One fan was wearing a headband with a sign that reads, "CL," while the other one has a fan with the artist's picture.

The two fans riding in the car then cheered on CL after seeing her. The product that was being advertised can also be seen in the two ladies passing by. Although the scene of the K-pop female solo artist was only a few seconds, it was already a huge milestone and is enough for her to get more exposure in the United States.

An official from CL's agency said, "As the popularity of K-pop increases, more and more singers appear in advertisements, mainly in Asia."

CL's Debut and Solo Activities in the United States

While this is the first time that the former 2NE1 member made her appearance in an American TV commercial, CL has already made her debut in the US back in 2016. In August of the same year, the Korean female solo artist released her solo single "Lifted" along with its music video. CL co-wrote the song alongside producer Teddy and Asher Roth.

Her solo debut was preceded by a pre-release song titled "Hello Bitches" in November 2015. The artist once again participated in writing this single, which received generally favorable reviews from music critics. Christina Lee of Idolator, a music blog, praised CL's "Hello Bitches" by saying, "It's as assertive as CL has ever sounded, with its schoolyard taunts at the hook and barbs rapped in Korean and English about how she rules the world."

Time Magazine even noted her as the "future of K-pop in America." Following 2NE1's disbandment in November 2016, CL continued her solo activities in the United States. She was featured in Lil Yachty's "Surrender," and she made her Hollywood debut as an actress in Peter Berg's movie "Mile 22."
