MAMAMOO Hwasa Renews Contract With RBW, Wheein Still in Talks

MAMAMOO's Hwasa renews her exclusive contract with RBW, while Wheein is still in talks.

On Mar. 30, MAMAMOO's agency, RBW, announced that Hwasa had renewed her exclusive contract with the company, "We recently signed a renewal contract with MAMAMOO's Hwasa. Since we have been working together for a long time and have built trust, we plan to continue fully supporting Hwasa's group activities as well as her individual activities."

The company also shared that they are currently discussing renewing contracts with Wheein, who is the remaining MAMAMOO member still in discussion, "Currently, we are still discussing in-depth with member Wheein, and there will be no disbanding of MAMAMOO. We ask you for your continued interest and support for the talented group MAMAMOO."

Solar and Moonbyul finished renewing their contracts with RBW on January.

MAMAMOO's Debut and First Releases

MAMAMOO made their official debut under RBW on June 18, 2014, with their single "Mr. Ambiguous." Prior to their official debut, the group had collaborated with several artists. Their first collaboration was with R&B singer, Bumkey, releasing together the song "Don't Be Happy" on Jan. 8, 2014.

Following the first collaboration, the group went on to collaborate with K.Will, releasing "Peppermint Chocolate" that featured Wheesung on Feb. 11, 2014. Their last collaboration before their debut was with rap duo Geeks, releasing the single "HeeHeeHaHeHo" on May 30, 2014.

In Nov. 2014, the group released their second EP, "Piano Man," with their title track having the same name. "Piano Man" became a success, having ranked within the top 50 on Gaon's Digital Chart. By the end of the year, MAMAMOO was tenth highest in the ranks for digital sales among girl groups and eleventh in the overall sales for both digital and album according to Gaon's rankings.

Since then, MAMAMOO has been climbing the ranks and has been branded as one of the top girl groups in the K-Pop industry who are known for their powerful vocals.

What Is MAMAMOO Currently Up To?

With COVID-19 putting a halt to many of the group's activities, MAMAMOO still found a way to bring content for Moomoo. The group released their special series "MAMOO's Game Room," where the members play various games and take on challenges, from playing board games, games of wit, traditional games, and more. "MAMOO's Game Room" can be found on both their official V-Live and Youtube channels and currently has six episodes.

MAMAMOO's Wheein to Make Solo Comeback in April

Despite still being in talks for contract renewal with RBW, Wheein is set to make a solo comeback with an album sometime in April. However, no further details were announced yet.

Wheein first made her solo debut with her single album "Soar" in 2019. Since then, she has been singing for drama OSTs as a solo singer, such as "Shine On You" and "With My Tears" for tvN dramas "Record of Youth" and "Hospital Playlist," respectively.
