BLACKPINK Rosé's "-R-" is the Best-Selling Album by a Female K-Pop Soloist

According to the Gaon Music Chart, BLACKPINK Rosé's debut single album "-R-" is the best-selling album by a female K-pop soloist. Released on Mar. 19, 2021, "-R-" has sold 446,314, according to Gaon. However, according to the Hanteo Chart, the single album has sold 502,447 copies.

According to YG Entertainment, Rosé is the first South Korean female soloist to surpass half a million sales in nineteen years.

The physical edition of "-R-" debuted at number two on the Gaon Album Chart, while the kit version of the single album debuted at number seven. In China, "-R-" peaked at number one on QQ Music's digital album sales chart. It also ranked at number one in other major music sites in China, such as Kuwo Music and Kugou Music.

Previously, "-R-" made headlines after it was revealed that the single album surpassed 400,000 pre-orders within four days. It is the best-selling single album by a K-pop female soloist.

On Mar. 15, "-R-" surpassed half a million pre-orders. Of the half a million pre-orders, 400,000 came from CDs, 48,000 came from the kit, and 52,000 came from vinyl sales.

IU's "LILAC" is the Second Best-Selling Album by a Female K-Pop Soloist

Following Rosé's "-R-" is IU's "LILAC." Released on Mar. 25, 2021, "LILAC" has sold 344,018 copies since its release. Upon its release, "LILAC" was the second highest-selling album by a South Korean female soloist on its first week.

"LILAC" debuted at the top of the Gaon Weekly Album Chart for the week dated Mar. 21 to Mar. 27. It is IU's fifth release to rank at number one. All ten charts from the album charted in the top 30 of the Gaon Digital Chart. Following the release of "LILAC," a number of older IU songs re-entered the Digital Chart.
