Former B.A.P Member Himchan Revealed to Have Attempted Suicide

On June 14 KST, Korean media outlet Star News reported that the former B.A.P member had attempted to commit suicide in his home on the night of June 13 KST. Prior to this, Himchan had posted on his personal Instagram account an apology to fans regarding the incidents that have occurred in the past months and following his ten-month prison sentence for sexual assault.

According to officials, Himchan's suicide attempt stemmed from his prison sentence and after he was caught driving under the influence. Fortunately, Himchan's mother was able to prevent the attempt after she had received calls from Himchan's acquaintances expressing their concern for the singer's health.

Himchan is currently in stable condition at his home. An official also conveyed a message from Himchan, who apologized for failing to live up to the expectations of fans and have disappointed them with his actions.

Himchan Convicted of Sexual Assault and Receives Prison Sentence

In July 2018, it was reported that while drinking with two male and three female acquaintances in a pension at Namyangju in the Gyeonggi Province, police were dispatched to the scene after a female in her 20s had made a report that she was sexually assaulted.

As a result, Himchan was taken into investigation in August 2018. However, he denied the charges stating that the two had "liked each other" and that there was implied consent. Himchan was then indicted without detention for sexual assault in April 2020 by the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office.

On February 24, 2021, the Seoul Central District Court had sentenced Himchan to ten months in prison, and is required to complete 40 hours of the sexual violence treatment program. The court had stated that although Himchan denies the charges brought against him, pieces of evidence show through the victim's statements that it is credible and supports the indictment. Through that, Himchan was deemed guilty of sexual assault.

Himchan Caught Driving Under the Influence

Prior to his prison sentence, Himchan was caught driving under the influence at approximately 11:30 pm on October 26 KST. According to reports, Himchan had rad into guardrails located at the side of the road near Dosan-daero in Gangnam.

Police had discovered Himchan at the scene and tested his blood alcohol concentration levels, where he was found to have a concentration that was high enough to have his driver's license revoked.

Himchan had admitted to driving under the influence and apologized. "I deeply repent and will reflect on myself. I will live my life in self-reflection," said Himchan.
