This year, MAMA opened with a special stage featuring six fourth-generation K-pop idols: Stray Kids member Hyunjin, ATEEZ member Wooyoung, TXT member Yeonjun, ITZY member Yeji, aespa member Karina and ENHYPEN member Heeseung. The joint performance was called "BlooM the Sound" and featured main dancers of top fourth-generation groups. The stage is meant to represent the theme of this year's MAMAs, "Make Some Noise."

However, Karina drew mixed reactions to her performance.

Many expressed disappointment over Karina's dancing. People commented that although her visuals shined, and her aura and body proportions were attractive as she performed, her overall movements were stiff. In addition, some viewers noted that the weaknesses of the female idol's dancing skills became more apparent as she performed alongside recognized main dancers in K-pop.

Some have defended Karina, saying that her performance is too short for people to judge her ability. However, others denied this, saying that the other idols also danced for a short time but could easily showcase their dance skills. Many compared her to Yeji and stated that Karina's dance skills are lacking compared to the former.

Many believed that Winter should have performed instead of Karina. Although Winter is not aespa's main dancer, she is recognized as a better performer. In MAMA 2020, Winter had a solo stage and received an overwhelmingly positive response.
