aespa Receives Exceedingly Positive Reception for Cover of S.E.S' 'Dreams Come True'
On December 20, 2021, aespa's cover of S.E.S's "Dreams Come True" was released with an accompanying music video. This was released in line with SM Entertainment's "Remastering Project" and ahead of the company's "SMTOWN 2022: SMCU EXPRESS." The release was highly anticipated, as aespa is the hottest rookie girl group at the moment, and K-pop veteran BoA was in charge of production, choreography, and visual direction.
The original version of "Dreams Come True" was released 23 years old and was a smooth dance track with 80s synth beats. The song is known for being vocally challenging, as S.E.S was known for having some of the best vocalists in the first generation of K-pop.

aespa's version of the song is more energetic and enthusiastic. While both versions have positive meanings, S.E.S's version is more mysterious, magical and gentle. aespa's, on the other hand, has a youthful energy with cool hip-hop tunes. aespa's remake makes the song more trendy and hip for this generation.
The members of aespa were applauded for their ability to pull off the complex song. The group's rappers, Giselle and Karina, were not afraid to try their hand at more vocal-heavy parts and showed off their stable vocals. They also flaunted their ability to digest the song despite being trained as rappers.

Giselle was also praised for her visual upgrade. Many noted that Giselle's visuals seem to get better each time with each release.
Karina, who is already famous for her outstanding vocals, is now regarded as a triple threat and an ace. While people were already aware that she could dance and rap, now that she has shown her vocal skills, people believe she is a top idol who is skilled at everything.
Winter earned praise for her high note. Many noted that the original S.E.S version was already difficult, but Winter exceeded expectations. She was also praised for being as beautiful as a fairy in the music video.
Ningning was also praised for her consistent performance and her stunning visuals. While Karina is the face of the group and Winter is the official visual, many stated that Ningning's appearance in the "Dreams Come True" music video is worthy of the "top visual" title.
In just two days, aespa's music video for "Dreams Come True" received over 18 million views. Their version of the S.E.S song also topped the Bugs chart and entered the top 100 of other major music charts in South Korea.
