Red Velvet Irene Selected as the Idol Who Needs to Improve Her Acting
Internet users have selected Irene, a member of the girl group Red Velvet, as the idol star who needs to improve her acting skills.
On January 16, Exciting DC, a platform run by community portal website DC Inside and MyCelebs, a trend research company, released the results of their poll "Which idol star needs to improve their acting skills?" The poll ran for a total of seven days, from January 9 to January 15.

Red Velvet member Irene took first place with 11,216 (34.97%) out of 32,070 votes. Irene made her acting debut in 2016 in the Naver TV Cast web drama "Women at a Game Company." In the drama, Irene played the role of Ah Reum. The drama revolves around young women who work at a mobile game company and the bonds and connections they make.
Irene made her big-screen debut in 2021 in the film "Double Patty," where she played the role of Lee Hyun Ji, a wannabe news anchor who works at a homemade burger restaurant. The film revolves around Irene's character and Kang Woo Ram (Sin Seung Ho), a foodie and struggling athlete who is preparing to get a job. "Double Patty" follows the two's relationship when Woo Ram visits the restaurant to get a double patty burger, which has a "buy one, get one free" sale.

Irene's performance was well-loved by her international fanbase, but the reception was not the same in South Korea. Following the film's release, Irene was criticized for her awkward way of speaking and her unnatural expression. According to Sport Kyunghang, commenters claimed that Irene "did not convey emotions" and that "it would have bombed completely if her face was not pretty."
Irene was voted as the second world film actor in South Korea in 2021 at the 5th Raspberry Film Festival, receiving six votes. First place went to her labelmate, EXO member Chanyeol.
