'Shinhwa Broadcast' Staff Apologizes For Scene Depicting Male Actor Tied Up And Groped: But Was It Sexual Harassment? [VIDEO]

A segment on Sunday's episode of the JTBC variety show "Shinhwa Broadcast" that featured cast member Andy Lee tied up and molested by female cast members has caused some controversy for the South Korean TV network.

On Wednesday, the show's producers responded with an official statement on Twitter responding to accusations that the "Shinhwa Broadcast" segment was sexual harassment.

"The staff of 'Shinhwa Broadcast' would like to apologize for unintentionally causing discomfort to the viewers with June 2's broadcast," the statement read.

According to the "Shinhwa Broadcast" producers, the segment, which featured Lee being kidnapped by female comedians from fellow South Korean variety show "Infinite Girls," before being "tortured" with kisses and even groping, was staged and consensual.

"Despite everyone's worries, the filming took place with a positive atmosphere from beginning to end with consent and complete understanding [of the concept] from the comedians and Andy beforehand," the statement read.

"It seems that the emphasized mood of the edited results, which were for the enjoyment of the broadcast, was what caused discomfort while viewing."

And although the producers promised Andy Lee was not sexually harassed, they promised to avoid similar content in the future.

"With the following episode, we will be more careful to make sure not to create any more concerns or worries for the viewers," the statement read.

"We will seriously take in everyone's interest and advice for Shinhwa Broadcast and will do our best to create an enjoyable 'Shinhwa Broadcast.'"

South Korean viewers angered by the alleged sexual harassment incident can take solace in the fact that the show will soon go on hiatus.

"Shinhwa Broadcast" premiered in March of 2012, as part of long-running K-pop group Shinhwa's return to the spotlight following a four-year hiatus during which several members served out their mandatory enlistment in the South Korean army.

In May, the JTBC network announced in that "Shinhwa Broadcast" would be taking a three-month hiatus.

"'Shinhwa Broadcast' will conclude on June 16 with its 'Mother's Touch' special episode," a representative for the network told the Korea Star Daily.

"Shinhwa will be busy with their concert tour, and won't have time to handle so many activities at the same time. After the final episode next month, we will go on a hiatus and then make a return in September with a whole new show concept."
