MelOn is one of South Korea's most prominent music subscription services, with over 28 million users availing of the service. It is the nation's leading streaming service and is the most used application by Koreans.

Because of that, it is one of the most reliable ways to discover which artists are famous in South Korea.

aespa is the Most Searched Female K-Pop Group on MelOn in January 2022

Ranking in the first place is the SM Entertainment girl group, aespa!

According to MelOn, they were searched over 338,000 times. Of course, this came as no surprise — aespa is considered the next-generation top girl group, and all their past songs continue to be listened to by the general public.

aespa's most recent release was their remake of S.E.S's "Dreams Come True," which was released on December 20, 2021.

"Dreams Come True" peaked at number eight on the Gaon Digital Chart and number five on the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100. This is aespa's second remake of a song and their most popular one of the two.

aespa's last original music release was their mini-album, "Savage," and the lead single of the same name on October 5, 2021.

In South Korea, "Savage" peaked at number two on the Gaon Digital Chart and the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100. The song also saw popularity in Malaysia, Singapore and the United States.

BLACKPINK is the Second Most Searched Female K-Pop Group on MelOn in January 2022

Ranking in second place is YG Entertainment's superstar girl group, BLACKPINK!

According to MelOn, they were searched over 253,000 times. They were able to rank in second place despite not releasing new music in over a year.

BLACKPINK's last musical release was their studio album "THE ALBUM" in October 2021.

"THE ALBUM" was released alongside its lead single, "Lovesick Girls." The said single peaked at number two on the Gaon Digital Chart and the Billboard K-Pop Hot 100.

"THE ALBUM" peaked at the top of the the Gaon Music Chart. The Korean Music Copyright Association (KMCA) has given "THE ALBUM" a million certification for selling over one million copies.

BLACKPINK is the first girl group to achieve this certification.
