NMIXX’s ‘O.O’ Music Video Copied? JYP Entertainment Slammed Over Plagiarism Accusations

JYP Entertainment is under fire for allegedly plagiarizing NMIXX's "O.O" music video concept, and ATINYs are demanding an explanation.

Read below to know what happened.

Did JYP Entertainment Copy NMIXX's 'O.O' Music Video?

On Tuesday, Feb. 22, NMIXX dropped the official music video for their song, "O.O."

The over three-minute video is packed with colorful visuals and impressive effects. In fact, just 14 hours after its release, the music video for NMIXX "O.O" already generated 4.9 million views on YouTube.

However, fans of ATEEZ a.k.a ATINYs were not impressed. This is after they noticed several similarities between the music video for "O.O" with ATEEZ's hit song, "Illusion."

Since the music video for "Illusion" features a pirate-themed backdrop, they couldn't help but liken it with the ship that is shown in the "O.O" music video.

Reports also revealed that the similarities may have to do with the fact that both NMIXX and ATEEZ have worked with DIGIPEDI.

The studio was the one that produced the music video for "O.O," and ATEEZ also worked with DIGIPEDI in the past. However, it was not for "Illusion." As such, ATINYs are urging JYP Entertainment to explain what happened.

And they have also pointed out another lie that the agency must have made.

Meanwhile, people said it was wrong for JYP Entertainment to say that NMIXX focuses on a new genre called "MIXX POP." This genre refers to a combination of songs from different eras and creating one complete track.

However, critics were quick to point out that aespa was the first K-pop group to ever go down this route.

On the other hand, fans also came to NMIXX's defense and stressed that they are not trying to attack the members of the K-pop group.

JYP Entertainment Accused of Plagiarism

As of writing, JYP Entertainment has not yet commented on the similarities between ATEEZ's "Illusion" and NMIXX's "O.O." However, this isn't the first time that the agency faced this type of allegation.

In November 2021, they were also accused of copying MONSTA X while promoting one of their newest K-pop groups.

At the time, MONBEBEs saw similarities between the new group's logo with MONSTA X's logo for "We Are Here."

In June 2020, JYP Entertainment issued a statement in response to another plagiarism allegation involving TWICE's music video for "More & More." Back then, American artist Davis McCarthy accused the agency and TWICE of stealing his installation piece, "Pulse Portal."

In their statement, JYP Entertainment said that they requested the production company behind TWICE "More & More" music video to come to a mutual settlement.

They also said that they would be preparing preventative systems to ensure that this type of problem won't occur again.
