'My Teenage Girl' Faces Backlash

This week, it was revealed that the final lineup group from "My Teenage Girl" will be called CLASSy and they are made up of seven members.

Even though it's not surprising for strangers to be grouped together in these types of shows, viewers couldn't fathom why some of the selected idols are just 13 and 14 years old.

CLASSy's maknae, Seonyou was born in 2008, which means that she's just 13. Her two other groupmates, Boeun and Jimin, were born in 2008 and 2007, respectively.

This means that CLASSy members have two 14-year-olds and one 13-year-old.

The oldest member of the group, Hyungseo, is 20 years old.

CLASSy Sparks Concern

Over online community platforms, viewers of the show couldn't believe why "My Teenage Girl" would allow very young K-pop aspirants to even compete in the reality TV show in the first place.

Others, however, also understood that there's a need for new K-pop idols. And the teenagers that joined the show knew that even just from the title, MBC was looking for young performers.

However, others also expressed their concern over the age gap of the members of CLASSy, believing it would be difficult for the 13 and 14-year-olds to be up to par with them.

Additionally, some also expressed their concern over the possibility of the three youngest CLASSy members risking their mental health for embarking on such an endeavor at such a young age. After all, they are just too young to be part of a highly-competitive industry.

'My Teenage Girl' Controversies

This isn't the first time that "My Teenage Girl" received backlash from viewers.

In November 2021, the show was slammed because of its unfair treatment of the contestants.

The survival show has quite a unique format because trainees need to receive at least 75 percent of votes from the untact on-site audience before they can meet the judges.

Last year, two contestants that didn't do well during their performance received a good score from the live audiences. So, they had the opportunity to meet the judges.

In December, "My Teenager Girl" was once again slammed after they almost booted off two trainees due to technical difficulties.

Yoo Jae Hyun and Park Hyo Rim were part of a four-member group. Even though they didn't have proper training, they still managed to impress the judges.

But in order to stay in the competition, they need to receive at least three out of the four votes from the judges.

Unfortunately, Yoo Jae Hyun and Park Hyo Rim only earned two votes from the judges, and the results shocked everyone on set.

It was later revealed that the votes were counted incorrectly so Yoo Jae Hyun actually received three votes and she stayed in the competition.

Unfortunately, Park Hyo Rim had to say goodbye. And what's more heartbreaking was the fact that she had to hear the news of her elimination twice.
