BTS, TWICE Achieve New RIAJ Certifications in Japan With These Songs

The Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) has announced the new batch of artists who earned a certification in Japan, which included K-Pop stars BTS and TWICE.

Since 2020, the RIAJ has been implementing a new certification system that includes online streaming of song, in addition to their already existing certification system for physical album shipments and digital download sales. Based on their new system, the RIAJ certifies songs silver once they reach 30 million streams, gold for 50 million streams, and platinum for songs with over 100 million streams.

BTS' 'Blood Sweat & Tears' Officially Becomes Certified Gold in Japan for Streaming

According to the RIAJ's latest batch of certifications dated February of this year, Grammy-nominated group BTS has earned a new certification with their 2016 release, "Blood Sweat & Tears."

This month, "Blood Sweat & Tears" has officially become certified gold in Japan after the track hit and surpassed 50 million streams in the country.

This means that "Blood Sweat & Tears" took five years and five months for it to achieve such a feat in Japan.

Meanwhile, "Blood Sweat & Tears" was released back on October 10, 2016, as the lead single of the group's second studio album, "Wings."

"Blood Sweat & Tears" features a mix of tropical house, trap, and moombahton, with influences of reggaeton and dancehall. Regarding the concept, the song depicts how people think, choose, and grow in life, and also addresses themes such as temptation and carnal willingness.

Following the song's release, "Blood Sweat & Tears" peaked at No. 1 on Gaon's Digital Chart and Billboard's World Digital Song Sales Chart. The song's Japanese version also landed at the top of Oricon Charts.

Aside from a gold certification for streaming, the song also has a platinum certification for physical album shipments for shipping over 250,000 copies.

TWICE's 'FANCY' Officially Becomes Certified Platinum in Japan for Streaming

According to the RIAJ, JYP Entertainment's top girl group TWICE also achieved a new certification with their track "FANCY."

As of February, TWICE's "FANCY" has officially become certified platinum in Japan after the song reached 100 million streams in Japan.

This means that it took "FANCY" nearly three years to achieve the milestone after being released on April 22, 2019, and also making it the third song after their releases "Feel Special" and "I Can't Stop Me" become certified platinum in the country.

"FANCY" was released as the lead single for TWICE's seventh mini-album "Fancy You."

The song is a blend of electro pop beats that features TWICE's quirky festive tones that has been present in their past releases, as well as their strong vocals and melodies. Lyrically, "FANCY" is about love, and how they express their affection boldly.

At the time of the song's release, "FANCY" peaked at No. 3 on Gaon's Digital Chart, and at No. 4 on Billboard's World Digital Song Sales Chart.

Besides their new certification by the RIAJ, "FANCY" also has the Korean-equivalent certification by the Korea Music Content Association (KMCA).
